Tu-154 - plane and simulator

In today's story, we will get acquainted with the full-fledged flight simulator of the Tu-154M airliner, created by the Legend Aero center. The distinction of this simulator from the "classic" ones in this field is that its cockpit is not an imitation, but a real cockpit of an airliner that has flown until recently.
In the video, we will get to know the aircraft and the features of its control, the simulator itself and, of course, the instructor who has vast experience in piloting the Tu-154 in ordinary and unusual conditions.

Somebody probably already said this, but the equivalent for us US folks would be flying a sim with Capt. "Sully" from "The Miracle on the Hudson". Sounds like a cool pilot to get to fly with.

I was able to fly the DC-10/KC-10 simulator at McDonnell Douglas Long Beach. It was amazing. I worked there in the 1980s &1990s. Great place to work. Miss those Mad Dogs!

Cool and wonderful to see that this simulator has been made! I love analogue cockpits, I have been in Finnair's old DC-10 and then in the newer MD-11 simulators a few times and I must say the DC-10 was cooler be-course of the instruments.

Never flew in a 154 sadly…. Hoped to very much. One time leaving Murmansk I went out from the small waiting room onto the are where the planes were parked and a 154 was directly ahead…. we seemed to be going to it…then were directed left to where a 134A was waiting.. A great Aircraft in itself, but one I had flown in a few times….. ahh well )

Another contributor to that miracle was a guy who for years kept the weeds and such from overgrowing the runway. Just in case it was ever need again. I believe the deal was that even though the airport wasn't in use, it wasn't officially closed either. From what I recall, if he wouldn't have maintained the runway, the pilots wouldn't even have been able to see it, let alone use it.

What an incredible idea. Considering the number of partial and complete planes in various boneyards, the potential is there to put pilots and wannabes in the the authentic captains seat of any number of classic aircraft. All it takes is a huge bankroll and serious ambitious aviation enthusiasts.

Would love to see a special on Soviet civil aviation. What was it like to fly Aeroflot? How did you buy a ticket? What was a flight from Moscow to Vladivostok like ... etc.

If we're talking about TU-154, it had to make a stop somewhere in Siberia. I know of Krasnoyarsk (from personal experience) and Abakan (VladAvia went through it), but there must have been other possible locations as well. There was also a non-stop flight on IL-62, but this one I don't remember well, because I was rather small at the moment of that travel. :)

It's probably a pipe dream, but I'd love to see the application of Flight Simulator 2020 to the same hardware (though obviously it's missing so many features in X-Plane, namely a proper Tu-154 aircraft). There are excellent third-party models of Moscow available in the game already. Maybe one day! EDIT: Haha--I'm like number 737!

I've often noticed that the interior of the cockpit in Soviet aircraft in always painted this unusual turquoise colour - even in fighter aircraft. What is the thinking behind this?

Great to see what enthusiasm can amount to! A bit off topic but it just crossed my mind again when watching: Every soviet aircraft ( military or civilian, regardless of manufacturer) I have ever seen in a museum has consoles in the same mint green / turquoise colour- something I have never seen on western planes. Is there a reason/ explanation for this design?

was this the pilot who landed the plane using a glass of water as an attitude indicator? or was that a different incident in Russia. I think it was air crash investigations or something similar about a flight that lost all systems and the pilot had the flight attendant bring a cup of water up. Water always seeks level. Now I wonder how many other old planes set for the smelter have found their way into simulator centers. Some really old ones like Stratocruisers or Constellations could be interesting too.

A flying museum piece. this is what contributed to their loosing the cold war. The simulators we use have 15 foot stroke.

Just curious Sky. Do Russian pilots say "V1. Rotate. Positive climb rate. Gear up." but in Russian? Or do they say something else? Not trying to be funny. It's an honest question. I ask this because I think since there was such a separation between the West and the USSR back when airline aviation was young, I would think there would be a difference.

They do. But slightly different words. Idk about the western plane pilots (Boeing, Airbus pilots), but for the older Soviet plane they do have those callouts. 9:00 When they're taking off in that vid, the pilot makes these callouts. V1 is called Рубеж (Rubezh meaning boundary), Vr is called Подьем (Podyem means go up), And V2 is called Безопасная (Bezhopasnaya means Safety), lastly gear up is the same there but in Russian (Шасси убераится/ Shassi Uberaitsya). That is what I understand. Maybe some Russian here will correct me. And the translation is a rough one, but the meaning is close enough.

What is the display with the rubber screen or blinkers around it. The device just above the engine throttle controls. Who uses it, and how do they get into a viewing position?

The rubber covered display I believe is the on board weather radar. As for the blinkers, idk which one ur referencing to, but maybe just a warning indicator if I can guess.

@@evanopos5 Thank you. No not "Blinkers" as in the British English term for indicators, as in car directional signals. Blinkers, as in the term for the leather shields to restrict a horse to only look forward. This term might also be used for a device restricting the ingress of light. How the hell did someone position themselves leaning above the engine throttles to view this radar?

@@COIcultist ah, I thought blinkers as in blinking lights. wrong blinkers then, my bad. But I think that blinkers are meant to restrict the inggress of outside light like u said. And/or to make the display itself brighter and more vivid cuz maybe the display can't produce brighter image. So it's like how you see ur phone display in direct sunlight. And not necessarily like u see through a periscope. Cmiiw

Why not say T-U 154 I Instead of saying “Too 154”. It makes things confusing when you then start talking about AN-2, AN Too? It just sounds awkward IMO. Same with other aircraft designations. I always prefer saying the Manufacturer designation as individual letters rather than trying to make a name out of the letters. Just saying.
