Maybe because it’s expected in college but these are grown men in the nfl doing a job. You don’t coach like a tyrant or you end up with a shit team and players buy out real quick. Unless you’re winning and it’s overlooked but it doesn’t work when you’re a shit coach like Flores. Look at Mcvay, Reid, Carrol, arians, etc. they’re not assholes to their players and treat them like adults and they win championships. Slapdicks like Flores, mcdaniels, Billy o, Matt Patricia all suck at being a head coach because they suck the life outta their team. Times are changing man, you get more out of your players with positivity

And i hope no one is misreading my thoughts, ive just noticed a pattern and i think we need to raise young MEN instead of saying “hes just a boy” , for example my boys are wonderful in stores or restaurants because we have a standard of behavior that doesnt fly in the HOME so its never even a consideration in public, while i see these kids whine for toys, whine for food, cry over nothing. Reality is He’s not. Flores was an asshole to him. He didn’t like Tua from the jump and was pissed they drafted him over Herbert. He took it out on Tua, some would say tried to break him as a fuck you to the organization. I don’t think it’s that deep but he was overly harsh to him, probably in a way that wasn’t constructive or helpful for his development in a lot of cases. Hes not the coach to develop a qb, he’s a dc. Flores is also known, according to his staff, to be a big asshole. I don’t think Tua pussy for not liking him (kinda pussy to air it out on a platform like that years later but oh well)

He never wanted Tua as a QB and was pissed they didn’t draft Herbert so it kinda seems like it wasnt tough love more like tough hate. Especially considering he played under Saban who is definitely a tough love type of coach. The main reason I’m on here is because I think it’s unfair to call Tua soft based off this. He was asked what the difference between the two coaches and he gave his take on it. I don’t think that makes him soft

@@chris_angluin605 and for what it’s worth I am young but I’m a huge advocate for tough love coaching. I’m in my mid 20’s and played high school and college ball under some real hardos and I recognize the benefit for my maturity no doubt. Some did it more effectively than others. I could tolerate getting yelled at and bitched provided there was constructive feedback involved. I had a coach who would verbally insult me every time I made a mistake no matter how small. Like slurs and personal attacks (lot worse than anything JB has said) and as funny as it was, it crushes morale and you start losing the team very quickly. But I think there’s a happy medium between old school coaching and the new age soft stuff. It’s definitely necessary at the grade school and college level to instill discipline and accountability in young men but there’s a point where it goes way overboard. Problem seems to be that the new age people see any yelling as abuse and the old heads think all yelling is tough love, when in reality it’s very nuanced. We’re at that fucked point in time (like every single problem in life) where we’re way overcompensating and going the complete opposite direction. Football coaches were extremely hard back in the day and were overcorrecting to the point where coaches are going extremely soft. We’re seeing the effects of it and hopefully we’ll start moving back the other way and find that happy balance. Sorry for the long response but I’m definitely not a soy boy 😂 I’ve lived through both types of coaches and I like different aspects of each archetype of coach but I think too far in either direction doesn’t help the player develop as a player or a man really.
