Gaara is a shinobi of the hidden village of the sand (Sunagakure). He was made the jinchūriki of the One-Tailed Shukaku before he was born, causing the villagers to fear him as a monster. With nobody to connect to, Gaara grew up hating the world and looking out only for himself, justifying his own existence by killing anyone he came across. After being defeated in battle by Naruto Uzumaki, who has the same pain and found strength in his friendships - Gaara starts emulating Naruto. He becomes the fifth Kazekage and sacrificed his life to protect the village and villagers, and then gain himself the connection.
In the 4th shinobi world war, he became the leader of the army, and show how great he is.

Gaara's story was so sad. When he was little, he tried to make up all his mistakes, like offering a kid medicine, and they declined him, like it's so unfortunate people treated the jinchuriki like that. He couldn't control the sand, and ended up killing someone on accident. And instead of, like Naruto's parents protecting him, Gaara only was treated with love by his Mother and his uncle. His dad wanted to use him like a weapon. Also, Gaara adopted the kid with the iron sand.

He was born premature. They mention that he's born early and that's why he's so small and his mother died from the complications. The only reason he survived, being born weak and prone to sickness because he didn't finishing maturing before birth, was because Shukaku was sealed inside him.
