Thanks so much for your very thorough and professional work with this video, Bill. You make it sound teriific. I'm eager to have a look at that mouthpiece that worked so well for you. I'll take a look at those valve corks and felts. I did pay substantially less for this tuba than the current list price, but note that I bought it towards the end of the February 2020 Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, and the bell was wrinkled when I bought it. Melhart Music in MacAllen was very responsive and easy to work with on any waranty issues.

Thanks for the info! I’ll bring that mouthpiece when I bring the tuba.

@@buffalobillh I started on trombone because that's my favorite brass instrument, but eventually Id like to learn the tuba.

Melhart is a repair shop down in the valley (Texas). Idk where they make them but I’m not a fan.

My understanding is that they are made in China. If I was going to buy a 6/4 CC, there are other models that I would look at first.

Looks like a Big Mouth Brass 6/4 tuba. Sounds more focused and less subwoofer-like than the BMB though.
@buffalobillh2 жыл бұрын
That’s what it looks like to me. I don’t know which factory produced the BMB, but maybe they still produce it for other retailers…? Melhart is the only company besides BMB that I have seen offer a tuba like this. I was not too fond of the BMB 5th valve rubber band situation. This Tuba has linkages that seem to work just fine.

Sounds very nice, reasonably in tune deep low. Seems like the piston springs are too strong? Hence some clappity noise? But definitely you make it sound very acceptable!

Yes, the piston springs are very strong, and the valve bumpers are a bit noisy.

Interesting you should comment on the springs being too strong. I recall I Swapped out the springs from my previous 6/4 Tuba with this one

Because I thought the stock springs were too weak.
