What does the Wessex Chicago-York tuba sound like?
We released a comparison video that briefly featured this beautiful tuba a few weeks ago, and have received quite a few requests for a video dedicated to only the Wessex TC695HP Chicago-York tuba!
Luckily, we thought you might be asking for this - so we had Will Druiett and Jonathan Hodgetts record this review and demo for the Chicago-York while we were putting together the comparison video!
As always: they were both able to offer their feedback on the instrument :)
In this video, Will provides us with a brief performance which is recorded using an Neumann TLM 103 Microphone, and a Scarlett Focusrite interface, to ensure that we were able to capture the true tones of the Wessex Chicago-York tuba!
While we do have a handful of videos already recorded and ready for release, we are always looking to the future and are curious to know what people want to see next.

I can’t say I’ve played the 20” bell but I did get some time with the Presence and I admit it reminded me of a Thor with just a bit more of a broader sound. I would really enjoy testing the York to my 6/4 Big Mouth Brass tuba sometime to compare more apples to apples but if the York is anything like the Presence I would concur that it is a fabulous instrument! Some day I want to try the Chicago Presence, as, from the recordings I've heard, I think it may be the best sounding contrabass tuba ever made. Also, 0.1mm! That is literally paper thin. I'd call that heavy foil, not sheet! It's hard to believe something that thin could last, such a long time. Someone must have taken good care of it.

Awesome. If I were going to add to, or replace my current 'BAT', I would probably go with the smaller bell Chicago Presence.

We have, quite literally, shown some of these women Jonathan mentioned in the b-roll of this video… We also released a factory tour vlog a few weeks ago, which shows many more of the incredible women who are a part of building these instruments.
