Another fine one from Tuba Skinny outside of the Royal Frenchmen Hotel. A Blind Blake tune. That’s Adam Lozoya, the Traveling Pianist, sitting in on piano.
Recorded 2-7-21.

Mark, we spoke before, I forget if it's all IH or only Farmall you like. TS just keeps coming through. As long as they keep playing and Shaye gives us a smile sometimes, maybe we'll get through.

@@stewartfenton7660 I'm mainly a Farmall man as practically all my farming as well as Daddy's and Grandpa's was and is row crop farming. The Farmalls were International Harvester's line of row crop tractors which made them suitable for our kind of farming. If I was in the market for a utility (general purpose) tractor, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy an IH tractor. They were all great tractors. As for Tuba Skinny, I second your motion. Like you, a smile from Shaye Cohn could melt an ice berg!😊👍👍

@@MarkWYoung-ky4uc I'm from England, my dad drove a Farmall in the war as well as a Titan, it probably was from his description, and a pair of Fordsons. The only older Internationals I drove were B250, B275 and 414,nice little tractors, grip like hell and we needed that in Devon. And once a rarer B450, these were all British market models, but last I heard were still being turned out, the smaller ones, In India, in uglier tin work of course. The art of automotive styling has disappeared. . Tuba Skinny, what is it about them that grabs us all? Apart from the music, maybe it's partly the lack of showbiz. I'd like Gunhild Carling a whole lot better without all that claptrap, but then I suppose she wouldn't be Gunhild.

@@stewartfenton7660One thing about Tuba Skinny is that they have a way of bringing good people together. You are the second friend from England I have made since I started following them last summer. The first is THE one and only "Pops" Coffee. Another thing is their well polished musicianship, each is a great musician and together they work like a well tuned well timed engine. Another thing about them is they don't just play traditional jazz but blues, jug band, calypso and occasionally country songs as well as anything else that they can think of. While they play major festivals and events as well as go on tour overseas, they still busk on the street when back in New Orleans which proves they haven't gotten above their raising sort of speak. Lastly, they are real humanitarians who are always working to help out others by donating part of their proceeds to worthy causes. As for the tractors, I am familiar with the old International b275 and 414s. They were great old utility tractors that were great for all general farm work. We always had the Farmalls because our main crop here in North Carolina was tobacco which is a very intensive row crop making a row crop tractor a must. You mentioned Fordsons. Years ago my uncle had a 1926 Fordson made in Cork, Ireland. He bought it from an uncle of his that used it to thresh wheat with. He used it to turn land and other heavy jobs but they still cultivated with the mules. He said it was a brute to hand crank and steer. Great to hear from you. Take care over in the west country! 😊

@@stewartfenton7660 Stewart here is a video that you might like. It's a video by International Harvester to promote the Farmall Cub, the smallest tractor in the Farmall line. My grandpa had a 1955 model and it was the first tractor I ever learned to use. I have many fond memories of using his cub on the farm and of grandpa using it. It is now owned by one of my first cousin's sons which makes him the fourth generation to use it...enjoy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6GWameDgcqdha8

As a huge Leon Redbone fan, the first time I discovered you on KZbin (about 3 weeks ago) I immediately fell in love with your music. You guys are an amazing group of musicians. Miss Cohn and Miss Lewis not only very talented but gorgeous too. Tuba Skinny belongs in Hollywood. I guarantee it; someday, hopefully soon, you'll be playing the The Hollywood Bowl. Can't wait to see you guys.

Leon Redbone was an amazing discovery for me in the 1970s. I immediately recognized that he was from a different time and yet got airplay on the radio amidst all the rock in vogue then. I heard an interview of him about 15 years ago driving through Wyoming which showed both his intelligence and humanity. I discovered Tuba Skinny just last September and was immediately astounded. Wish I'd known about them all along, but haven't visited relatives in NOLA since before Katrina. Please support Tuba Skinny! They're a miracle on Earth.

Many thanks for giving us this treat, Randy. A companion video to your recent one of 'Junco Partner', with the Travelling Pianist sitting in. 'Hard Pushin' Papa' is a 12-bar blues and they are playing it in the key of G - a key rarely used by most jazz bands.

Ah, as we say in the UK, you are 'opening a can of worms', Axel. What is jazz? For me, taking a 12-bar blues in the key of G and improvising upon it, singly and collectively, is jazz. What are Shaye's two solo choruses (starting at 01:21 and 01:42 respectively), if not very pretty traditional jazz?

I'm impressed by the ability of the players to knock out a great solo when Shaye calls for one, like her call for a piano solo at 4:00. She gives them no advance warning, yet they do what she asks. I guess that is part of the magic of being a jazz artist. What an appealing tune!
