Ten days ago I never heard of Tuba Skinny, now I can identify by site Erika Lewis, Shaye Cohn, Banabas Jones, Rubbin Robin and purchased 3 albums. I’m working on the names of the rest of the musicians.

Welcome, Michael. They never fail to uplift. They have stuck together and remain faithful to their principles of busking quality early jazz. God bless. My friend

Many thanks, Randy. 'Messing Around', played here in the key of C, was composed in 1926 by Charles L. 'Doc' Cooke, with words by Johnny St. Cyr. It has a 16-bar Verse, which Shaye plays only at 00:59. Words of the Verse: 'What is all this noise I hear around here? Please don't keep me in doubt. What is it all about? Now honey calm yourself and don't be angry with me. And right here, on this spot, something hot you'll see.' Words of the Chorus (32 bars): 'That dance called 'Messin' Around' - that dance that's new in the town - It runs the Charleston way out of gas. Don't even have to step; and still it's full of pep. Keep your doggies still, mess around until morning. My grandma thinks it is nice; and grandpa he's done it twice. It is the easiest dance I've found. Let's go right now. Sure is a wow! Messin' around, messin' around; dance they call 'Messin' Around'.' 00:16 : Introduction, eight bars 00:24 : Chorus, 32 bars, ensemble 00:59 : Verse, 16 bars 01:17 : Chorus, played by Craig, with Shaye and Barnabus providing offbeats in the final 16 bars 01:51 : Chorus, played by Barnabus, with quiet harmonising support from Shaye and Craig 02:26 : Chorus, played by Shaye 02:59 : Chorus, first 16 bars played ensemble, second 16 led by Max 03:33 : Chorus, featuring Robin's washboard against stop chords 04:08 : Chorus, finale, ensemble (note Shaye taking breaks against stop chords in bars 25 to 28) No Coda

Thanks for the precious historical and musicological study. And let's rejoice that our Shaye still has strong lips and nimble thinking ...

Why not music by St Cyr and words by Cooke?
@PopsCoffee3 жыл бұрын
Charles Cooke was a classically-trained composer and arranger. He really did have a doctorate, as well as an earlier bachelor's degree.
@axeleast86323 жыл бұрын
@@PopsCoffee Thank you. You made me work for it but I found an image of the sheet music on your blogspot. The apostrophe in place of the 'g' in 'Messing' is presumably a result of Cooke's superior education. It was also interesting to see 'Lyric by John A.St.Cyr'.

Excellent, as always. Much glad to see them out busking. I do miss Brian and his banjo. Is that a new, bigger, cymbal that Robin has attached?
@stevegrooms11423 жыл бұрын
You're right, Daniel. I think Robin shies away from using the metal as much as most washboard players do. He is always a percussionist, concentrating on rhythm. So the larger cymbal surprises me a bit.

@@user-wm4ur9ol2h I am just an American Tuba Skinny fan living in Mexico. I don't have any current information. I just answered you because Raul hadn't. Are you aware of Kwak Dakyung. She is a very young trumpet player. There are videos of her playing when she was too small to hold her trumpet. She plays all types of jazz but traditional. Since she seems to be "the real deal" she needs to play traditional Jazz and listen to Tuba Skinny Shake Em Up and others in NO. Since you are a Tuba Skinny fan and speak the appropriate language maybe you can tell her. Her father's channel is Kwak Dakyung Trumpet ( I may have spelled it wrong) He answers comments on his videos of his daughter but his English is "improving " so Korean might be more polite.

@@markhorton3994 It's amazing that you know Kwak Da-kyung of our country. Kwak Da-kyung is also a jazz trumpet player, so she might know "Tuba Skinny." Okay, I will ask Kwak Da-kyung if she knows "Tuba Skinny" and introduce her. Have a nice day.
