Every time I hear a more recent recording of Tuba Skinny, they just keep getting better. They have really gotten their total act together with their French tour, and now they're gelling better than they ever have in 10 years since Shaye Cohn founded the group. This band is really on a roll and destined for world famous status.

Every time I watch, I am absolutely marveled at how well Shaye orchestrate's while playing. Very very few can do it at this level. Also, I've seen a few different mixtures of this band, I apologize for not knowing anybody but the ladies. I recognize the Trombonist as being prominent on most videos, as well as the clarinet player (Sax? Pretty sure it;s a clarinet...but I'm far from a musical genius) and of course the skinny man playing the Tuba. I've seen this singing guitarist in a few videos. He adds MUCH as does the Washboardist, who I have also seen in several...but I guess my point is, regardless of the lineup, they are so incredibly in tuned with each other. Thanks CANDCJ. You have repeatedly introduced me to TS, and I can't thank you enough!

I found Tuba Skinny when I looked up Zydeco music just a couple of days ago. I'm in my 50s, and thanks to Cohn and the rest of the band, which plays the happiest music I've ever heard, I want to learn how to play the cornet! Instead of buying myself another gun for Father's Day, I'm going to get a cornet, and TS CDs and vinyl records for when I cook outside on the grill, and for when I make breakfast, and for when I make wine spritzers for my wife... for any occasion that calls for a good mood and general all-around happiness! THANK YOU, TUBA SKINNY, for bringing so much joy to an often tumultuous world!!!!!

Excellent comment. I've wondered if Shaye's "focus on the song" came from her classical music background. She treats each song with great respect. I think her heavy use of mutes is best understood as her way of fitting in with her band, what you call her "ensemble work."

Since November of 2019 she has played a King Master cornet.

The lyrics to an old song always come to mind when I see her. "Someone told me there's a girl out there With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair." "To find a queen without a king They say she plays guitar and cries and sings . Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born."
