How to replace that defective Egnater TM4100 power transformer by D-lab electronics. At first, I thought it wasn't worth the effort/price. However, I was wrong. Replacement was a piece of cake. I hope that everyone understands, this is worth fixing.

Based on this video I was inspired to buy the power transformer for my dead Egnater 4212. It took me 4 hours but when I turned it on...SWEEET MUSIC!! I love this amp and was disappointed when the power transformer blew. I only paid $600 for it used and between the price of the power transformer of $235 and another $250 for the technician to fix it, I didn’t feel like it was worth it. But after watching this video I thought it was actually something I could pull off. Thank you so much for making this video.

if a technician charged you $250 to install a transformer...….you got robbed. Attorneys in my area charge $250 an hour...…..and taking an hour to install a power transformer that's a direct bolt in with plug in leads and no soldering.....an hours time is way too generous

Great vid. I have to say I am totally disappointed in Egnater. I thought they had some interesting amps, but hearing of the tremendous number of Power Transformer failures, often multiple times, tells me they don't understand QC/QA and they don't care. They do not deserve any business with that record and that attitude. Again, great video!

As an FYI these Tourmaster power transformers was a known issue in these first generation. I had Egnater replace mine, it was out of warranty but as I recall they worked with me on the cost. Egnater amps as a company have went away. Not sure what, if any, future is for ahead them.

I am replacing one of these. I am usually pretty careful with taking lots of pictures. But after I put the new transformer in and connected everything back up, I had a 6" red and black wire to a small white connecter. It is attached to the power supply circuit board near the AC entrance. I could not find the connecter anywhere on the pcbs in the amp? In my search I found video. At 6:16 it clearly shows my mystery cable. It goes thru the grommet to the other side of the chassis! I think it goes to a lamp that I'm guessing lights up the Egnater logo? Thanks for your expert video. Maybe I will do a quick video next time instead of just pics. It's hard to see everything from every angle with pictures alone.

+MuscleDad420 Yes, I was taken back at first. However, the transformer replacement didn't turn out to be so bad. I was more concerned of what other damage there could have been beyond the power supply.

Try Cts transformers. They are reliable paper transformers and sound more classic style. They are cheaper than mercury. You need to know the output voltages.

I have a fried transformer on the 4100 , and I cannot get a reply from Egnater when asking to buy a replacement part. Does anybody have any clue where I can find a power transformer for this? Could I just use anything else?

I'd go with Mercury Magnetics, made in the USA, not china.

I have read that toroid transformers are not very good in a guitar amp - obviously Egnater disagrees. I know they are relatively expensive but would you have another reason to avoid using them? I can't remember the exact reason for this statement.

My tweaker 40 has been down for the count 2x. Both times Power transformer. 3rd time is a charm. Now Egnater is replacing with an Elite PT. Do you know if the Elite is the salvation I am seeking. Many people are paying for Mercury Magnetics USA. Any help would be appreciated. Excellent burger.

Jeffrey Collins I sold it and did not invest anymore money into it. I wasn’t pleased with Egnater and couldn’t see myself advertising their brand at live performances at my expense.

Hopefully enough people realize that if you're not experienced with doing this type of work, please take it to a pro. There are lots of lethal voltages still in the amp - if you don't know what you're doing it can be fatal.

A LOT of those Tourmasters took out that expensive transformer. A fine reason to avoid those amps at all costs. Egnaters tend to suffer from DUMB design choices more than anything else. Like burned up molex power connectors because the guy who selected those connectors to be used didn't bother to READ THE RATINGS for those connectors and see if the amp's demand would exceed them. (It does!!!)

the real question is why the toroidal power transformer failed...….did you investigate that for your customer ???? if it were defective from the factory, it would have failed in warranty......so I doubt you are doing factory service......and without determining and correcting the cause of the failure...….its surely going to come back to you at some point...….and service is not about come backs
