Learn how to set round faceted stones in a tube! Go from plain tubing (chenier) to a smooth, properly finished setting. It take a bit of practice to become proficient at tube-setting, so use CZs before you tackle more expensive stones. Enjoy!

Just subscribed. There are SO MANY CHANNELS where the presenter has mad skills but they are horrible teachers. You are wonderful. Thanks. The biggest problem I see in some other channels is that they bla bla bla forever giving almost no content for a long time at the beginning and then when they finally start teaching something they become uncommunicative. It's especially frustrating when it is something I really want to learn and I _know_ that they know! They have the information! But all I get is bla bla bla about nothing for a long time and then a short fragmented uninformative tiny bit at the end. (Well sometimes they don't end after that they bla bla bla for awhile longer.) I only say this so I can express how wonderful it is to find your channel. You are amaze. Your content is actually full of useful content. I adore you. Thanks, lol!😋😎 You are as good as my fave, Andrew Berry

Almost no rubberized abrasive wheels are not going to scratch a stone unless it's a very high Mohs #. This is misleading. Even a "pumice" (supposedly safe) scratches a stone. I have yet to find one that won't - and I have many many I've bought and tried based on erroneous suggestions... Do you have one what won't scratch? Thank you.

Hi Annie - Is it possible to tumble a tube set CZ without scratching it...?
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 6 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend it. CZs are fairly hard, but they're also brittle and may be chipped during the tumbling process.

looked on Rio's site to see what's available for the stone setting sets. None of them had a great review. Would you share the source of your set?
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 7 жыл бұрын
I actually have one from Rio: www.riogrande.com/Product/Stone-Setting-System/118961 Many of the reviews are from people who tap the handle to set the stones, rather than press down with their hand. I exert far less pressure with my hand than I would if I hit the tool, so I haven't had any issues with the punch getting stuck in the handle. If you do want to strike the tool, don't use the handle, and just strike the back end of the punch. Also, the punches will need to be polished, or they'll mar your tubing. Best of luck!

What kind of camera are you using. Great video and very well explained as to what you are doing. My favorite so far. Do you know how to put crushed turquoise into a silver bracelet or ring. I need to learn so I can fix my moms bracelet. It's a lightening bolt filled with turquoise.

Hi, Nancy. Thanks for watching! I'm using the stock camera on my Samsung S6, so nothing fancy! I use a tripod and diffused light, but that's it. Unfortunately, I don't know much about stone inlay, though it's on my list of things to learn. I would suggest searching for lapidaries in your area, or looking up inlay artists online and reaching out to one of them. I'm sure someone can help you out with your mom's bracelet. Good luck!

Do you cut your tubing with a saw? I am curious because getting the tube cut straight is difficult for me so any tricks or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks for the video! It’s great.
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Lisa. Thank you! I do use my saw. Oftentimes, I'll hold the tube perpendicular to the edge of my bench pin and use the side of the bench pin as a guide, but in this video I use a miter jig (see 5:19) to ensure the cut is perfectly square. I line up the mark on my tubing, and cut the tubing with my saw (usually a 4/0 blade). Then, I use a cheap file to file the end of the tube while it's still in the jig. Don't use your good files; the jig will damage them. Good luck!
@lisajacquemetton4706
@lisajacquemetton4706 6 жыл бұрын
Annie Pennington Jewelry thank you, Annie. Crazy question. Do you turn hold the jig as is and saw that way, or hold the jig perpendicular to the bench pin. I’ve tried this method. It’s a little awkward for me. :)
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 6 жыл бұрын
Lisa Jacquemetton It's not just you... it's an awkward tool to use! I lay it flat on the bench pin, and saw away from me. Ideally, you'd mount it in a vise, but this method's worked for me so far.

what wax do you use to pick up the stones?
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 6 жыл бұрын
I'm just using some beeswax leftover from when I did encaustic painting. But, I think most waxes would work; maybe break a small chunk off of a beeswax candle? I warm the wax a bit in my fingers before using it, just to make it extra sticky.

I purchased 4mm tubing, 4mm CZ’s... the crystals fall right thru the tubing? Help!
@AnniePenningtonJewelry
@AnniePenningtonJewelry 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Patti. My guess is that you purchased tubing that has an inside diameter (ID) of 4mm, rather than approximately 3.5mm ID. In order to have enough metal for the seat of the stone, you need an ID that's approx. .5mm smaller than the stone, and an outer diameter (OD) that's approx. .5mm larger than the stone. The tubing I used for this 4mm stone is linked in the description box.
