I have one short and one long plate Siemens, unfurtunarely dont have E83CC yet and either a Valvo of any kind (just one valvo box), but as soon as I get something else I will do a vid about it :)

Nice audible comparison, I like it, 50's def sound like a wider stage and better clarity overall, 60's are pretty close, but the 70's definitely sound veiled.

All of them soung good. The 50s sound more sweet and fantastic in the mix.

50s have little more headroom, but 60s seem to have more interesting harmonics

The 50s Philips ECC83 are probably the best tubes ever made, BUT... compared to the 50s Telefunken I have (and did a similar test), I think Telefunken are superior, both in gain and in frequency response... both have that 3D sound, yes its because of the long plates (most lp tubes produce that 3D sound) but my Telefunken are NOS and my Philips are a little used.... so my test wasnt fair.... that said, Philips were the industry standard, where everyone -back then- compared their 12AX7 (ECC83) to theirs... so I guess Philips is the winner, with TELEFUKEN second best.

great video again. longplates create that 3d lively open effect like nothing on earth. ive experienced the same differences comparing blackborn mullards the early longplates mc1 f91 f92(1956-1959) are the most detailed holographic and open ,ive found them too bright for most amps but magical on tweeds and bassmans, the i61(1959-1964) is similar in tone but with shortplates so a bit more compressed less extended highs ,great for all amps and lastly the i63(1965-1974) with the most low mids and softest highs great for bright amps. i62 and 10m are too rare to mention both great .do you have a tube tester? i advise anyone serious about this hobby to try and get a used orange vt 1000 tester for 200$ they are discontinued an amazing device easy to use.

I dont have a tube tester..YET! But I need one..need more then that Orange one..I have a big batch of different audio tubes that need to be tested cause I will sell em in the future:) thanks for your comments!

@@ecc8344 old testers are like ww2 stuff -takes a while to learn ,you can damage the tubes, it needs calibrating. but if you know what youre doing you can get a mint old tester for cheap and they last forever. the best are the digital testers like amplitrex but they cost way too much. the orange vt 1000 tests all the tubes you need for guitar amps(preamp and power) besides rectifiers (that's the only flaw) .

I have also other types of tubes such is 6SN7, AZ11, 6N6P, Ecc808 , Ecc82, EZ80 etc...that need to be tested..even though they all seem NIB..But if I want to sell em I need proof with tester :)

First track with drum+bass , paning of 2 guitare is not the same as next tracks so difficult to compare

yes meaning longplates vs shortplates from the same maker will sound more open airy 3d, shortplates more compressed but the early ones are similar to longplates without the treble extension.

Sorry... not a very scientific comparison. First, it's hard to tell which one you are actually playing. Second, you play some of them centered and then play others with a wide stereo. It's hard to know if anything changed at all the way you did this.
