Late 50's Long smooth plate version here are my favorite by FAR!! I have all the known nos 12AX7s, but these are just incredible! I am looking for more. They are hard to find!

The mC series right? Absolutely amazing! My favorite so far aswell :)

@@ecc8344 YES! If people knew. They would scour the earth. They blow away, for me at least, all my RCA 50's/60's Blackplates/grayplates, Mullards etc...

Nothing like those mC from 50s, I have 2 Philips and a Siemens ..they are all mindblowing sounding, hopefully ill find the mC Mullard one day :)

@@ecc8344 I have 4 left. I am looking for more. I don't even use anything else except a Blackplate rca At7 in the reverb driver which gives sparkle and dimension, but in V1and V4 of my BF Princeton reverb are those Amperex/Phillips. Once i tried them. everything else sounding thin, and i have a good small stash of RCAs. I haven't tried 50's Mullards. I only have a handful of 60's IEC Blackburn ones which are nice but those 50's Holland Amperex/Phillips eat them for breakfast!

2 years back I bought a Philips 12ax7 labelled tube with delta 7l and a barely visible mc5 on the bottle. However, it has a ring getter and not a D. This confused me as I later read that all the long plates had D getters - yet your second tube has a ring! In other words - I'm happy to see I wasn't tricked!
@ecc83442 ай бұрын
Hi there. There are many variations of getters among long plate tubes, horse shoe, side post getter, ring getter.. etc. depends on the series and manufacturer, there are many tube fascinado websites out there where you can check out which exact series was your tube :)

Great review! I keep a pair of short plate 60's myself. I always called that dimpled getter a ufo getter?!
@ecc83442 жыл бұрын
Thank you! and yes, your right..it looks like a UFO :) however Soviet/Russian getters are more commonly called flying saucer and they literally look like a flying saucer :) so I've read it once that this one should go by "dimpled getter" so I've stick with it....same goes for the ring getter that some prefer calloing halo getter :)

We called it a parasol getter....

These seem to be the favorite of a lot of players. I like Blackburn Mullards, but Phillips are a close second for me.

it's pronounced HEERLEN with a long E and accentuated on the EE........ these are indeed very nice sounding tubes as a lot of tubes out of the philips consortium.......Valvo ECC81 is one of the sweetest sounding 12AT7's , many have a chromelike glare !
