CineTreak Cinelive C1 HDMI switcher: test, tutorial & review

This is my overview, tutorial (ish!) and review of the CineTreak Cinelive C1 4-input HDMI switcher and streaming encoder.

Hi, I have a couple of questions: it is possible to show a slideshow of images (png) as overlay lower third? ie with atem I can made a macro to have the same results. It is possible to manage downstream and upstream keys and crop one of hdmi input? Thanks

There’s no slideshow function, you’d have to set a PC to do it and send the PC screen to one of the switcher inputs via HDMI. I don’t recall if you can crop the keys on this unit, sorry.

You could however use something like pro presenter or adobe express to create an animated lower third, set background to green, output from IPhone, or Laptop to an HDMI Input. then key out the green with chroma. Then press play so that your animated lower third can display over your cameras

Yeah, me too really! Hence my frustration at the second HDMI out being not configurable.

Interesting and informative, but the product certainly falls short of the BlackMagic Mini Pro, particularly on the multi-view output, the unknown support, the BMD ecosystem, API support and the flakey hardware & software issues you raise, so it's a big miss for me. There is a lot of value in the support and training ecosystem.

I wouldn't call it flakey hardware or software and don't know what you mean about the multiview, it's excellent on this unit

@@TubeShooterMag No external multi-view output and various glitches and faults. The reviewed covered this, the other big negative is no significant ecosystem and no proper support. The BMD product is about the same price, but from a reputable manufacturer.

Excellent explanation, I already bought mine but when I connect it to the computer it cancels the audio, if I disconnect it again I have audio on my computer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

How are you connecting it? What sort of computer? How are you monitoring the audio?

If you’re playing a video on your MacBook Pro, how do you transfer it onto your CINELIVE 1?

Use an hdmi input as extended screen. Then u can full screen ur video on the switcher before u play. Or use pro presenter or keynote for cleaner output

thanks for the review - very informative. During the test, no switching interference or out of sync was noticed?

The audio was by default slightly out of sync even on the HDMI inputs (ie the HDMI audio from the same HDMI video was out of sync) but it could be corrected in settings. I did send the developer a note suggesting this should be set by default! I didn't notice any "interference" but I have seen mention of it on other reviews.

@@TubeShooterMag Yes, they wrote to me that this device does not see any camera. And the Viska protocol doesn't work everywhere. And if you compare it with a mixer from SPROLINK NeoLIVE R2 - which one is better?

In terms of switching video they're similar but this device has the significant benefit of a built-in streaming encoder so you don't need a separate computer in order to broadcast to the Internet whereas the Sprolink is purely a video switcher.

Correct, as long as you have an Internet connection via Ethernet

On this switcher I think you'd need a converter with a Type C input and HDMI output which would then connect to one of the switcher's inputs.
