The UK isn't a democracy anymore. Not since 1998. There is no general right to free speech in the UK, but British Citizens have a negative right to freedom of expression under the common law, since 1998. Freedom of expression is guaranteed according to Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, as applied in British law through the Human Rights Act. What pensioners are, is not a burden, even to Starmer. They ARE low hanging fruit, as are the receivers of benefits. The Benefit bill is far higher than it should be because many workers in full-time employment are underpaid. Businesses EXPECT government to top up incomes with Benefits to enable a family to have a reasonable standard of living; one which most middle-class would find intolerably restricted. Many Benefits, therefore, constitute a SUBSIDY to businesses towards their wage bill. Kier Starmer's order of business, therefore, should be to gradually increase the National Minimum Wage, beyond inflation, over his 5 year term, until every full-time worker can live reasonably without recourse to Benefits. The reduction in the Benefits bill would, as a corollary, reduce the nation's tax bill and/or reduce the national debt, saving interest on the debt... a virtuous circle.

The fact that previous governments have not properly managed and invested our contributions is down to utter failure and greed on the part of these Governments. If all the 880k people who aren't claiming Pension Credit started to do so, it would cost the government around £3.4bn. That's compared to the £1.5bn saving from cutting the winter fuel allowance. So the only way this works is if, despite what she claims to want, less than half the people not claiming put in a claim, otherwise this costs more than it saves.

I know someone who's daughter is a train driver. Her overall income last year with allowances etc. was £80k and with the new pay rise she will get an EXTRA £10k a year. Even she thinks it is rediculous. I didn't vote Labour but have done in the past. I was prepared to see if Starmer could cut it but making cuts to pensioners one of your primary acts of government shocked me and still does. Rayner used to claim the Tories would remove the payment yet when her own government does it she's out supporting it. Labour are not fit to lead a conga line let alone the country. Simple choice take money from the rich or from pensioners. Starmer chose the pensioners. I found this unsurprising after Reeves and Starmer both praised Thatchers policies prior to election. When this was raised it was ignored and people were told vote Labour or you get the Tories. So they sent the message we’ll just suck it up whatever you do.
