How the hell could Stefan think this was the better option. Because him with no humanity has been worse . He nearly got Jeremy killed , he almost turned Elena into a vampire the same way she lost her parents and after she told him she doesn’t want to be a vampire. If he just flipped the switch back and tried to makes things right with Elena , Damon , and everyone else. Then maybe he and Elena could become endgame and a lot of things would’ve been different.

​@@ethandoyle4978 Dude. Damon was worse. If Stefan did them, it was because his humanity was off. And it wasn't even his choice to begin with, don't forget Klaus compelled him to turn it off, which Stefan tried to fight it. Damon on the other hand never had his humanity off when he actually did things like killing Jeremy because Elena rejected him or killing her friend because he thought Elena broke up with him. And don't forget Damon wanted to actually turn Elena into a vampire because she was going to be sacrificed by Klaus. In fact if she turned into a vampire, it was because of Damon's blood.

Elena's comment to feeling everything is about Damon. The very context of the scene speaks to that, but I can understand why it's so easily misinterpreted. Stefan intentionally said something to Elena that he didn't mean. Elena wants to know how he pretends not to feel because she believed him when he said it. Elena can't do that with Damon because she feels everything. It's called being consumed. Because she can't pretend, she unintentionally said something to Damon that she didn't mean. He lashed out because he believed it. That's why Stefan doesn't want to feel. Painful for him to know she feels everything with Damon. If it weren't for Stefan's need to connect to his humanity, Elena wouldn't be with him in scenes like this. She's playing on his feelings for her to make him feel. Every bit what she'd do to Matt if he were in the same position.

no. he said it about damon caring too much and it was all her idea to break his neck. stefan is a master manipulator. that's been evident since season 1. he knows his brother has trouble with controlling his emotions and he said it to hurt him. don't get me wrong, i love stefan but i also see him for what he is. don't try to force the narrative...

She un-fell for Stefan by this point, but she's desperate to give him hope because she cares. No different than she did with Damon in 2x22. The difference between Stefan saying something he didn't mean and Elena saying something she didn't mean. Elena can't pretend with Damon. Their argument in 3x19 stops Damon from spiraling because Stefan was the one who pushed it - out of jealousy. He couldn't handle seeing Elena with Damon on the dance floor, just as Damon couldn't handle seeing Katherine with Stefan on the dance floor.
