Its always easier going up than coming back down!!!! I'll bear witness to that statement in part 2 of the Tuchodi River Recovery! We bash our way back through Boulder alley on our way home. You'll just have to watch and see what happens!!!
We got a call about a couple of hunters with a broke down river boat approx 5 hours north of Ft Nelson. With temperatures plummeting as we loaded the boat for the next days journey we knew we would be in store for a heck of a journey! Starting the day off at -7 celcius would just be the begining of our episodes. 10 mins into the journey we overheat and the rest is a tale you don't want to miss!!!
Our "Big boat" originated as a 20ft, 4cyl Mercruiser powered, Hamilton single stage, riverboat. After getting our feet wet in the boating world we did as we do with everything...... more power!!!! After several engine swaps with what we like to call "bad luck" motors; we switched up the game completely!
All it took was a little elbow grease and a whole lotta persistence for this hillbilly to shoe horn the fully fuel injected 325 ci motor out of a 04 Chevy pickup truck! Pain less wiring harness, high pressure fuel pumps and new motor mounts was just the beginning! With more power comes more thrust so the 1 single stage impeller wasn't going to cut the mustard! We installed a 19 degree bullet front, 22 degree mid and 24 degree aft impeller topped off with the 100mm nozzle of a Scott Hydraulic Trim Cone and Half Cut Garage built reverse cup on electric actuator
Trailer is now a tandem axle Load Rite with custom built walk on Tube Fenders from Half Cut Garage. The axles were mounted spring under and the bunks dropped to their lowest setting. Teflon was added to the back 6 inches of the bunks to encourage the boat to slide on and off the trailer with ease! Teflon sliders mounted inside the fenders prevent rubbing on the side of our beat up boat! ha ha ha . Full height rollers were added for loading and unloading in swift currents!!!
