In this video, I show you how to tuck pelvis in golf swing so you play more consistent golf and slash your golf handicap. The pelvis in the golf swing plays a huge part in your ability to make consistent contact with the golf ball and hit solid golf shots. This key move is easy to learn and implement and works for golfers of both high and low golf handicaps.
When you do this tuck pelvis squat move in the downswing, you stay in posture, eliminate early extension and give yourself more room to make a great golf downswing. Practice the drill at home first and work your way up to hitting short shots with it at the golf driving range. Enjoy making a better golf swing that delivers consistent golf shots and lower scores on the golf course.

I was watching how pga player swing and saw a little seperation of left and right legs, and I thought that seperation was their habit and I din't put my eyes on it because I dont know the seperation of leg drill. With this video clip, now I understand why pga player are swing like what you are saying. So great lesson that it is my first time to meet a golf teacher who is giving the clear explanation. Keeping the hips tucked back/under and by having less knee bend in my set up position (more a of feeling peeking over a fence and looking down, with just a slight knee bend) has changed my ball striking completely. With too much knee bend, even though it felt "athletic", I was standing up at impact, hips moved inward, and I was thrusting the club head resulting in inconsistent strikes and toe-heavy divots. The other thing keeping the hips tucked does is slow my swing down (it's hard to swing fast and stay in posture, and with the hips staying tucked it forces me to slow down and swing in control, resulting in more deliberate swings and less random strikes). Thanks Troy!

Tucking in that pelvis is so important. By doing this , you prevent topping the ball. I worked on a lot of your exercises. Love them. Build the core in you and to use that core turning the waist and shoulders. My ball striking continues to improve in practice on the range. It’s baby steps each time but improvement is occurring . I can hit every iron and wood solid many times. My goal is to get on a golf course by Oct 15 and play a round of golf for the first time in 30 yrs.

Great explanation. I have no problem keeping my angles and tush line when I hit DOWN on a ball with an iron. I find it's an entirely different challenge keeping the pelvis back while hitting UP on a ball with a driver. That's when there's the tendency to stand up. If I do succeed in keeping my pelvis back with driver I'll generally pop the ball up. Please advise.
@Hittingitsolid
@Hittingitsolid 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'd check to ensure you have the ball far enough forward in your stance with the driver. Play around with moving it move forward until you get some solid contact. Also, look at if you're getting enough secondary axis tilt at impact which you need a bit more with the driver because you're hitting on the up. Cheers

Interesting ...I've taken a couple of lessons recently and to correct standing up in the downswing the instructor simply suggested I start taller and stay taller. It feels odd and your suggestion makes more sense especially since keeping hands low in the downsing is something else I need to work on. In other words if I stay tall throughout the swing it would seem more challenging to keep hands low at impact. I'm now a bit confused as to how best approach my swing faults. Any thoughts are welcome.....keep up the excellent video lessons.
@Hittingitsolid
@Hittingitsolid 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I think it's fine to stay taller in the backswing. But, I personally feel we need to drop lower in the downswing to make good contact. Every good golfer on the world tours does this. This is especially true when hitting irons. Not as much with driver. Test it out and practice both and see what sort of results you get and let me know. Cheers

One criticism of the chair drill is I can anterior tilt my pelvis to make contact with the chair but at the same time extend my lumbar spine resulting in my head going up and bellybutton moving towards ball. short a torso early extension. But if I flex my lumbar spine and posterior tilt my pelvis I don’t stand up but still maintain contact with the chair. My feel is belly button going towards my lumbar spine and small of back going slightly up and away from ball. Is this correct? I haven’t seen it described this way but I seem to be having better results. By flexing spine in transition I also feel like Ioad glutes and can properly extend pelvis and lumbar thoracic spine towards target later in downswing.

@Hittingitsolid

Thanks Karsten, at set up ideally your pelvis will be in anterior pelvic tilt and as you move into transition and the squat move you want it to again be in anterior pelvic tilt. This helps you rotate better and stay in posture. Cheers

@@Hittingitsolid I watched this vid in conjunction with the "right arm bent" vid - great advice, thank you, they've really made me think. At 6:15 you are going into posterior pelvic tilt in order to clear the hips, or am I mistaken? This seems to be something that elite golfers do? I suffer from blocks out to the right, and I wonder if this is because I am madly trying to thrust the left hip backward with anterior tilt, which only brings my right hip more forward!

Troy, great video thank you. Tucking the pelvis at setup has really allowed me to shallow effectively in the downswing and make better strikes. Another big benefit is ease of shoulder turn.. 90 degrees is very easy now, where 70 used to be a struggle from a more squatted starting setup position. Would a tucked pelvis at setup also help with putting, or do you have any videos for effective putter setup? Cheers Troy.

@Hittingitsolid
@Hittingitsolid 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, it could be a number of things. Without seeing your swing here's what I think is most likely happening. It sounds like as you're squatting your golf club is too steep and possibly open. In an effort to square the clubface in the downswing you are flipping the wrists/club and hitting the ground first. Record your swing on video from down the line and check that you are coming down shallow enough and the clubface is square and not open. Cheers

@Hittingitsolid
@Hittingitsolid 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, yes that can happen. The key is you need to get some shift to the target as you squat. It might be only an inch or two and rotate through. Without that, you can easily hit it fat. Give that a go and let me know. Cheers
@TheJihadMaster
@TheJihadMaster 2 ай бұрын
You don’t keep an anterior pelvic tilt through the swing. This will cause rotation issues as you can’t easily rotate over your crouched front leg smoothly and your spine will compensate. Your hips are leading your body, transitioning from the anterior to the posterior during the downswing but the full transition won’t be evident till after impact and follow through. This transition in tilt is fueled by your abdominal muscles crunching and assists in bringing the hips directly through - leading the upper body / arms / hands / club to snap down and through the pocket your abdominals and hips have made naturally by flattening your back and pelvis. This snap through, is called shallowing the club and all pros do it. Otherwise we’d be just hitting around a circular arc plane - which for some reason is touted as a good thing (I think it’s because this arc Is always viewed from behind the golfer and not on the side). You don’t want a circle as that will not drive the ball forward. You want more of a U shaped basin in your swing (looking from the side - back will look the same as a circle) as this creates consistency and forward driving power. Only way to create the U shape is to ‘drag’ the upper body through the cavity formed by your leading pelvis / back transitioning to a posterior or flat inclination. You can certainly do it other ways (hell, there are great golfers who don’t shallow the club) and each to their own but the difference in a 135 yard 7 iron and a 165+ requires the pelvis to also ‘shallow’ through to drive first the upper body to do the same to create that pro level snap.
