Trust me. After playing the game for 25 years and countless lessons, this video and Harrington's advice on how to clear your hips/lower body and turn up/lift to finish is THE key to becoming a very good ball striker and consistent player. This is the key to the golf swing!!! No exaggeration! Paddy - thank you for sharing what countless pros and so called experts either don't want to or can't tell you

I have watched so many youtube videos on early extension. There are 100’s of them from ‘coaches’. Paddy doesn’t even know/ use the term ‘early extension’, but this is the most compelling and easily understood video of the issue. So good. He really brings home the value of a Player Coach who has no objective rather than help. Incredible. Thanks so much.

What I love about this lesson is how Paddy explains the 'why' of these movements. I can't recall hearing an instructor say that you need to get the right hip higher because it facilitates the weight shift into the front leg. As someone who subscribed to the idea that you need to keep that right knee flex constant throughout the backswing, this video has been a revelation. Much appreciated.

This is mastery, manifesting experience of the inside forces and anatomical movements/relationships in the swing. It's like having Jigoro Kano explain a judo hip throw. Many teachers will show one or two parts of the motion, but they hardly ever connect the pieces for everyone to see at once and show how and why they're linked. Padraig doesn't have the time to do a 500 part series with a little snippet every three days, so here it is, the whole hip/torso shebang, with no ornamentation or distraction. Hips don't lie!

Paddy, I'm now 62 years old. Started trying to learn golf late in life (mid 20's) and was never able to play much at all over the next 35 or so years, due to work and familial commitments, and financial restrictions as well. I've recently been able to retire and now have the ability to play the game regularly, and so I've taken to really studying the game in every aspect that I can, via videos such as yours here on KZbin. As a single man, I have a golf mat in my kitchen, which allows me to hit full shots into my living room, into two heavy woolen blankets hanging from a curtain rod. I've found that finding the top position of the backswing (for my body) is easy. It's everything that comes after, that tends to be difficult. Your video here has, I think (I need to take it to the driving range) unlocked the final piece of the puzzle that I was looking for, to get my "timing' just right. Thank you so much for making this video (and others; I'm now a subscriber), to help an entire world of duffers, play better golf. God bless ya' Paddy. Press on and play more great golf! You have a new #1 fan! :)

Lot of respect for you Paddy! I'm on my way to 66. Last year I started prepping for retirement golf. I had not played regularly for years. Experimented and do the exact opposite of what you say. I actually bend my knees at address, then initiate my swing by bending my right leg more. The whole swing is leg driven. I play off the regular tees, have since I started playing regularly beaten my longest drives ever on many holes and succeed in breaking 80 now and then. I thought I must look odd but see many pros addressing the ball with bended knees and then bending the right more in the backswing. You preach what I suppose is textbook but there are many odd balls out there who do ok. Keep up the good work!

I would like to echo Brian's comment just below. I have played for over 50 years off 4 or 5 handicap for almost all of it and have never heard this level of clear analysis of what we should be trying to do (and WHY) with the hips, hip flexors, glutes, the right leg on the way back and on the way down, the left leg through impact and WHY you shouldn't just straighten the left leg at impact in an attempt to look like a good player .....unless you want a very sore back and knee surgery! Also his explanation of the hips staying CONNECTED to the upper body, but LEADING the upper on the downswing, while not racing so far ahead that they are completely disconnected is super-helpful. This is one of the great KZbin golf gems. Brilliant Padraig, thank you.

If I could have a lesson or just chat golf with anyone in the world it would definitely be Padraig. I feel like he gives the content that low handicappers really appreciate and those that like/understand the technical nuances of the swing.

Thank you for a very detailed explanation of how and what to feel when making these moves, that is important for us amateurs to fully understand and execute. Appreciated.

I’ve been golfing for two years now. I’ve gotten lessons and have always tried fixing my lower body bc of the slide with side bend issue resulting in a major inside to out swing w shanks being a normal fiasco. Had to come back to this video bc it has helped me so much. I’m finally shooting consistently in the 70s instead of never breaking 70 and living from 83-95 (wildly inconsistent). Thank you Padraig!

That was such a great lesson for helping me to better understand how the hips and lower body turn during the swing. I’ve been working on this very move since last year. For years I’ve been sliding my hips, instead of rotating them. This video does a great job of clearly explaining how to turn properly. WELL DONE!

The right knee turning to the inside/behind of the left knee is the secret to a balanced finish! I was always going to the outside of the left knee and need to walk out after the swing. Can't wait to try it soon and will report back.

Thanks Padràig, you've explained the movement perfectly, I now understand what I need to do. My game has improved 20 shots and handicap cut 4 shots in the last 5 weeks. On a roll. Keep them coming when you can, very informative.

I watched a ton of videos on clearing the hips and pelvis - this was absolutely the BEST instruction and demonstration. Thank you so much Padraig.

I’ve struggled recently with this transition, swaying too much from right to left. This simply is the best description about how to properly work the hips. This is the first time I’ve heard it described this way and it’s so easy to follow and practice in the living room. My consistency has greatly improved. Thank you for the lesson and best wishes.

This is the absolute best video on clearing the hips I have ever seen. Watched it last night, practiced it last night, went to the range today. Not a single fat shot was found.

At the risk of being revoltingly sycophantic, our man demonstrates so many fab qualities when he says, "He told me, and I believed it - but it's only now I understand it." Padraig is a model of gratitude, curiosity, humility, hard work, creativity and balls. Can you imagine actually standing over a ten footer for the Big One - what a blast that would be :) Thanks Padraig; for someone trying to get the last few strokes off you're an incredibly articulate coach as well.
