Another way to use the trimmer is to keep the unit closed, and align the perpendicular lines to the diagonal on the seam, and the diagonal line with the prior stitched seam (going north south). Make 2 cuts instead of 4. A great time saver if making hundreds of units! (in such instances, I use the 8 at a time construction method paired with this trim method). And the large Tucker Trimmer is wonderful...particularly if you make LeMoyne stars traditionally. It has the perfect guides for the corner diagonals and center seams. (I also have rapid fire LS ruler...but I made myself learn how to traditionally piece ).

I am so glad I saw this video. I was going to use someone else's templates to cut out the pieces and on a sample I could not get the 1/4 inch seam perfect. Using this method and the Tucker Trimmer guarantees a perfect block.

I’ve only made hourglass blocks once, and it was a disaster when in went to trim them. I really screwed them up and I didn’t know why, so I’ve never made them again.

I love it but do they sell it in New Zealand? Would like to find out where they sell it!
