I checked out the survey - a pity it doesn't have a question about what is my main reason: Too concerned about the safety aspect. A few hours' worth of fun isn't worth possibly being paralysed. Being held in the air by literally a piece of fabric that could decided to become a streamer with the slightest bit of turbulence just doesn't seem safe. I don't get why there are so many "safety" rules against me flying a

Hey Tucker, I am a retired small engine mechanic of 45 years and see you often dealing with clamps and attaching gizmos to your paramotors and toys like motorcycles and just toys in general. I found myself working on that stuff all the time and found that my local marine hardware store was a gold mine for all that fancy type stuff. Just think about all the things that sail boats clamp to rails and rod holders, pulleys etc etc. Not to mention it is all stainless top quality. Yes it is more expensive but who cares when your butt is in the sling.

Re: losing Jeff - I've watched many of Tucker's awesome videos, and it seems like random small parts often fail or break in weird ways on paramotors, which isn't a machine you want breaking so casually. Is there a way to upgrade the reliability of the parts or their assembly? I know that's a broad question.

To be fair, if you're struggling with the running and physical aspect, you could always buy a trike! You need a bit more space for takeoff and landing, but it isn't much different, and I've heard trikes are more comfortable than harnesses.

Glad Jeff landed safe. I wonder what a motor out would be like before social media or even cell phones...a pilot would totally be on their own, while friends would either have to go home and wait for a phone call on their landline, or would need to start blindly searching. And speaking of people coming to talk with you after landing, I was able to fly last night with a friend and it happened to us. A carload of people stopped to watch us fly and land at our LZ, and told us they saw us earlier and started following us with their car, so they could see where we went so they could talk to us after we landed. It really is pretty awesome being a paramotor pilot, and being able to talk and share our love of this sport with others, and hopefully inspire others to become pilots themselves.

Filled out the survey. 40 years ago I soled a Cessna 150 and then the Army, Vietnam, and marriage got in the way. Our two boys and I learned SCUBA diving as a less expensive alternative. 7 years ago when I was 70 I tried skydiving. Recently I found Tuckers videos on UTube and would schedule training in Florida ( like SCUBA vs snorkeling you don’t have to come up (or down)). LOL; in a moment except for advancing age and my wife’s health. Life for all of us is way too short.

Hello Tucker! Long time fan and fellow PPG/PG/Speedwing pilot here. A few years ago, we started adding a length of 1/8" bungee to the starter handles on our Miniplane Moster and Miniplane Minari paramotors. The Moster starter handle has a small loop on it. We attach the bungee cord to that loop, and run them down the shoulder strap tying into a lower strap in the harness. It makes the starter handle easier to find if you have to restart mid-flight, and more importantly, it keeps the starter handle from going into the prop when the spring fails. I hope this tip might help prevent anyone else from experiencing the same misfortune as Jeff did!

Ring gap! Rods are def a thing to worry about, but everyone ALWAYS FORGETS RING GAP!!! I've seen 4 separate engines destroyed (or at least needed sleeved because they get honed out over the course of 30 seconds of nitrous), remember to open up those ring gaps man, at least a couple thou.
@jajsamurai
@jajsamurai 3 жыл бұрын
yup, watch out for ring gap. the rings over expand and end up closing the gap entirely which causes them to be oversized in the cylinder which will do a lot of damage to your cylinder walls. I'm not an expert on nitrous but you should definitely talk to someone who does a lot of nitrous installs before you do it. there are a bunch of small details you can miss and blow up your engine.

Great video! The **good** thing about a mishap like that is that it could lead to a **better-designed engine** in the next few months or so. Have you thought of giving feedback to the engine maker, suggesting an improvement? I think they might be really happy to hear of suggested improvements to their product! It's the old story - lots can be learned from mishaps (and thank goodness this one wasn't too serious).

There's probably only like 10 pilots per 100k viewers watching the content, paramotoring is such a niche sport.. like the entry cost itself it's a pretty damn big investment for having so tiny flying windows (only mornings and evenings if you're lucky with the weather and even have free time), including the risk and the extremely few take-off/landing spots that make it extremely hard to even start flying.. so extremely niche sport for people with tons of extra money to spend..

Your survey didn't ask what barrier was keeping us from flying. For me it's that Medicare will freak out if I fly a paramotor and deny me coverage for any mishap that I might have. I wonder if there is any Paramotoring association that offers insurance coverage? I haven't found one yet and haven't found another with the same concern. Matt puts a bungie cord on all of our starter rope handles just to keep them from flopping into the prop.....just like what happened to Jeff. It's a thing. It happens a lot. Put a bungie now before it is too late. Bungie it to your shoulder strap. When I don't use my e-start, I use the bungie as a reference, I go for that first then work my hand up to the start handle. The bungie also works as a locating aid for when you are fumbling around trying to grab the starter rope. It's dual purpose....but mostly to keep you in the air and from spending $350 on a new prop.

Paraglider pilot here! I went to spain to do a powered paramotor course and the waight of the motor just put me off had to be 38kg and you break it you bought it, I asked there and then to swap on to a free flight course! look at the prices of motors that what's makes me stop and think is it worth it. Roll the dice with second hand maybe...

On the NOx kit make sure that ignition timing is taken in to consideration. NOx needs the engine timing to be advanced otherwise it'll blow the engine up. In other words it ignites quicker than gasoline alone.

Also a bad bracket will result in the carbon fiber breaking at the rivets that hold the silencer together. I seen it happen.
