Amazing combo! Now you just need a grand Seiko dress watch or an Omega Aqua Terra or something unless all you like his dive watches. Or just buy in Orient Bambino if you want to go easy on the wallet but still have a dress up peace which looks great on all kinds of straps and especially a suede. But what you have right now is awesome and super functional and you could always get your money back on both of those pieces now or later

Good video mate. Just to point out that the bezel is actually anodized aluminum, which is a powerful treatment that makes it much harder (harder than ceramic on the vickers scale) and far more resistant to corrosion and fading. This means that the bezel won’t scratch up and patina. Tudor use this method because they want the watch to be as durable as a ceramic bezel watch, but they obviously don’t want to put a shiny ceramic bezel on a vintage inspired watch. So they use aluminum which gives the matte finish a vintage watch needs, and then anodize it to make it harder wearing and longer lasting👍

Welp, my wallet officially hates you. There was exactly 1 reason I was holding off on buying the BB58, which was the idea that its aluminum bezel was not going to serve me well in the long-run as a watch with a ceramic bezel would. The Tudor is perfect for someone that wants to experience vintage Rolex without selling a kidney. The Sub is just a classic, timeless design that has and will be around for a very long time. I'd take the Sub any day of the week which is why I sold my BB58 I had for almost two years. And yes, most of the time the people that wear Subs now a days are tools LOL

I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when barely 35% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.

The dome shape of the Tudor saphire cristal edge protects extremely well the beautiful aluminum bezel so rest assured that it will stay intact if you take reasonable care of your watch. I simply love the looks of the Tudor 58..for me is a far better watch than the Rolex submariner.

My dad just recently gave me his previous model (10ish years old) sub date when he got the new model. The bracelet and case were all scratched up from daily wear but if you look at the crystal and the bezel, looks freakin brand new! Maybe some people like scratches on their watches but for me, i can tolerate it but i have a very hard time embracing it. 😊 You make a great argument. But sub date for me. 😁

@@01rai01 don’t get me wrong, both are great watches. But it seems Rolex has developed an unfavorable brand image of late that just doesn’t reflect my personal values or image. Tudor, on the other hand, is less snobby and doesn’t come with that hoity-toity (sp?) cache. Tudor is today what Rolex used to be before it became the status symbol we know it to be. I just prefer the casual robustness of Tudor

Prefer the snowflake hands and the warm tones, but side by side the sub wins easily. I've got an spb051, and I just love it, think it beats both on charm. But u need a good size wrist to pull it off. Think the sla017 is the daddy of them all , but would prefer a 42mm version for me. Your 043 was nice , but I still didn't like the blue seconds hands. The 017 is stunning and unlike the rolex, it's rare .

Watch posers do exist, and they are all wearing a Rolex (or a Hublot). Rolex watches are great tool watches, some may argue the original tool watch, but it is now a status symbol for people that know nothing of horology and are only concerned with cost of the brand & status. I would love to get a Sub, Explorer ll, or even a Datejust, but I would immediately be viewed as a tool, wearing what was once a great tool watch! I don't yet own a BB58, but I do own a Pelagos LHD, and I almost never take it off because it is probably my favorite. I typically wear my Seiko Marine Master when I dive, and yes I use my high end tool watches for their designed purpose, but I balk when it comes to wearing my Tudor on a dive. Perhaps this weekend I'll leave my Tudor on as I'm diving a spring fed cavern in N. Florida, but that is yet to be decided.

Interesting you mention the Marine Master! I own a 'Mini MM' with a racing green face and absolutely love it. As someone who wears both watches for an extended period of time I can state with confidence that the sub is far more superior in its built and quality than the Tudor . Both are great watches but there is a good reason Rolex place its name and the crown on one of their creation . Love my 58 black but the sub feels and wears more substantial . As it relates to status and perspective, that is neither here nor their . People should wear what they like and don’t give a Dam about about the others perspective .

"What Rolex used to be" Great statement!!! I've spoken to others who said the same to me. Rolex is aiming higher: gaining new fans who are ultra rich while giving Tudor an inhouse movement to keep their old buyers from the 80's and 90's happy and still in the family. Rolex is still amazing and better finished then my Tudor...but I see it more for investors and social media show offs now a days. It is amazing that everyone I know who is not into watches *but wears a watch* has Rolex. I find that interesting.

Thanks I think I'm in the minority for sure. Most people complain about aluminum but I would have never even considered buying the blackbay 58 with a ceramic insert. Which I'm sure a new model will have in the future and sure it will look good.

I have the 41mm black bay and love it. Went with that over the 58 because I liked the wrist presence. People complain about the thickness but never give it enough time to wear on the wrist because the weight is really well balanced.

I agree the face of the BB is really great. I'm not a fan of the sapphire crystal on the BB vs the Sub. The bracelet on the BB for me is a huge detraction. There is no beating that bracelet on the Rolex these days. I would go Rolex for bracelet alone, but if the BB had a bracelet like the Sub, it would be pretty compelling. Just my thoughts. Love your channel.

Yes I did unfortunately! It was to fund a king seiko or grand seiko in the very near future. Still have the cash from the sale for it. The tudor was bought with savings. However, a big school bill just came up for the wife.... so I have to hold off for a long long long time now. Depressing! But I'll tell you right now the 62MAS SLA043 is finished better then my tudor. Movement winds betters. Crown much more grip. *the black bays is slippery butter* But its a lot of money and it wasn't perfect. ceramic insert... it has a date which I dont like and it didn't wear perfect on my wrist and when spending that much $$$ it has to be near perfect at least. Of course if I was loaded I'd keep that thing forever. Miss it dearly!

100% agree with all of your comments on this review FT... I'm pulling the trigger on BB58 at last after watching your unboxing and comp vids. I think as much as I love the design and quality/functionality of Rolex pieces, the brand has become so unobtainable with ridiculous waiting lists at ADs and many insisting that you buy 1 or 2 other Rolex models before they even add you to a Submariner wait list!! Plus the crazy profiteering on the grey market makes the whole brand way less attractive to me...Whilst Tudor is somewhat related to the big Rolex brother.. its a great chance to buy some amazing watches now..as I suspect it could eventually go down a similar path as popularity grows. New BB Chrono already trading over €6500!! List price in Europe is €4999

Hi, I know that you sold your SLA043, then u bought the BB58. I am having a hard time to choose between the SLA043 and BB58 blue. Since you own/owned both, why did you sell the Seiko and get the Tudor?

Actually I didn't use the sla043 money for the Tudor. It was earmarked for a king Seiko or future grand Seiko. But just the other day received a big bill for a course the wife is going to take so its now postponed a couple years. Tudor was bought with savings since it released I've been saving. Now a quick explain: The 62MAS SLA043 is finished better then my Tudor. Seiko 8L movement winds better. Crown has much more grip then the black bays crown. But its a lot of money and it wasn't perfect for me *the SLA043*. ceramic insert or shiny metal coated which ever Seiko uses they are secretive. But its started to bug me...the shine. Also it has a date which I don't like and it didn't wear perfect on my wrist and when spending that much $$$ it has to be near perfect at least. So I do like the 62mas more but those 3 reasons were my selling reasons. Original 62mas is too expensive I don't think I want to enter vintage world just yet.

the cheaper version 63MAS SPB143/149/213 wears much better on my wrist due to the modern case design. So I bought a spb213 yes it has a shiny insert but it changes color from black to blue and I like it! I got a great deal on it and I love it. Wish it had the 6L or 8L movement tho. i suggest wearing both watches before making your choice we arability should be the ultimate decider!

I have a 16.5mm wrist like yours and I love your videos because you always include wrist shot, which gives me an ideal how will a watch sit on my wrist . You did mention in your Rado vs. Seiko video that watch enthusiasts should own a Seiko and I can't agree more. I have my eyes on the SLA since watching your video but the 48mm lug to lug worries me a bit. But the Tudor is not much shorter at 47mm. I have an OP 36mm, FOIS on Omega bracelet (1125/617), and I am looking to add a diver as a final piece in my 3-watch collection. And Seiko is surely an icon in diver watch. I have 3 kids and they each will get 1 watch from me someday, so I want my watches to be almost in the same price point/range.

Fair enough! I think ppl watching are wealthy as they are interested in the RoLLFLEX. I remember when I started in watches long long ago. A 300 dollar purchase was a huge deal. I couldn't imagine spending 300 on a watch. I would do months of research before pulling the trigger. Years later that jumped to 600 then 1200 now 10,000 hahah. This hobby is the worst!

I'll tell you what. I might have disagreed with you a bit about a month ago, but after going on a three week watch hunt in New York and Italy and hit every major brand ( ok I was too intimidated to go into Patek or AP), it's just a thing of beauty to walk into an establishment and be able to see all the watches the brand has on offer. Rolex has turned into an embarrassment. I really don't see how in the long run completely empty cases helps a brands image. At some point you have to be able to show what you theoretically are selling. On the other hand I love the teeth on the Sub's bezel, so there's that.

Tudor says theirs is anodized aluminum and will be very difficult to scratch actually which sucks for people who like patina but at least its tough as nails. Don't confuse it with painted aluminum of more affordable brands.

Owned the Submariner twice - a 14060 and 114060. The hunt and idea of owning a Sub is exciting, but ownership is quite boring. It’s a great watch, but it’s kind of boring (or really boring). I agree with you about the Tudor handset and caseback. I don’t own a BB58, but have the BB36. The caseback is completely flat, where my Rolex OP36 sticks out like the Sub in comparison. Why? The OP is 100m WR while the BB36 beats it with 150m AND has a better caseback. Same goes for handset, you can read the time on any Black Bay from across the room; my BB36 is the most legible watch I’ve ever owned.

I sold my maxi case sub and my 41 mm sub both of them, gone . I now own a BB58 blue and it’s perfect the steel is a little lighter than the gilt version and in the light it’s a gem. For a watch that flies under the radar l still hide it under my sleeve sometimes. It gets a lot of unwanted attention, especially when someone who is wearing there Rolex notice my watch and they want you to know they got a Rolex on , saids a lot . I would call them Rolexaterain. I just tell people it’s just a cheap diver .

I sold an skx strap to someone once and I said SKX are so sweet enjoy the strap. I did not notice they had a Rolex on and they had to lift up their watch and show me it after the transaction was complete and say it's just my beater. So I know the type.

A 7th reason is that there is less printing on the dial. What if the comparison was with a pre ceramic Sub? With the Tudor I just don't like the rivetts on the bracelet.

I know these are your opinion(s), but it came off almost as if it was spoof because many of your reasons for why the Tudor was better were that each Rolex feature was intrinsically better: (e.g., materials and their durability, brand recognition, etc). I’ve got a sub and a Tudor and love them both but the Rolex is a “better” watch. Whether it’s better in terms of appearance and enjoyment is of course in the eye of the wearer. But there’s still an objective reality that needs to be considered in what is better in some regards.

Mercedes hand is not bad. I think when the case is too FAT they start to look strange. I prefer the merc hands on the slim 5 digit icon sub. But overall I agree...snowflake hands FTW

The NTTD Seamaster is definitely an interesting matchup to the BB58 (considering both are retro divers with military "heritage"). The normal seamaster 300 (also the professional) might give the submariner a run for it's money. Keep up the good work!

I like the video. Buy the Tudor BB 58 for yourself and the Rolex Sub for your wife. Women appreciate expensive and shiny objects (god love them) I don't. Well, I guess, I do sometimes, but not on a tool watch. I've gotten rid of all my Rolex's because of the hype, price, and dickwads promoting them online and on youtube. So now I'm picking up as many discontinued Tudors I can afford. So far I only have a NOS ETA BB Blue, and NOS Ranger. I've had the Blue Pelagos (best diver of all time) since 2015. I will have a collection of 5 Tudors soon. That's where my collection is taking me after selling 4 Rolex's and a fifth one ready to go. Done with the Bullshit, done with the hype, and done with the dillweeds and the hyper-pricing of Rolex. I think Hans Wildorf would be most proud of Tudor if he were still alive.

Hate the SmP300 and thinks the BB58 is better than the Sub. Lay off the drugs dude 😁 Seriously though even the Omega SmP300 destroys the BB58. I have a sub, SmP300 and a BB58. The 58 only fits you better cause you have tiny wrists. For an average man (7,25inch World wide) both the sub and SmP300 fits better. Quality wise dial finish specs etc the sub is best with the SmP300 very close, the Tudor is a tier or two below. My BB58 even have some particles “dirt” on the hands when macroing the dial.
