Excellent job! In regards to the loft bedroom, I would cut a couple of inches off the legs of the bed so that when you sit on the bed your head doesn't hit the ceiling. Thanks for the video.

Cool! Great job! 👍 If it were me, I’d trim a few inches off the legs of that Ikea bed for head clearance. Could even just slip a piece of cardboard under the leg (to catch sawdust) and do each leg right in place with a fine-toothed hand saw. Wouldn’t even have to hassle with getting it on and off the loft that way. Thanks for video - hope you all are enjoying the place after your hard work.

I couldn't do a bunkhouse. I spent 21 years in the Army jumping out of Planes and Helicopters and my knees won't let me climb those stairs. We already owned our 8 acres of land here in Northern New Mexico and we live in ours full time, when we built ours we used a known footprint for ours, We took the front half of our 1200 sq feet house, which was 18x26 (468 sq feet) and used the same footprint, what was our 18x18 master bedroom became our "Great Room", our bathroom was and still is 6x8 and what was our 12x8 spare bedroom is now our bedroom. When we first started talking about doing this were looking and looking and looking at sheds, prefabs and all that then one day it hit me so I said down and rough sketch it out on grid paper using 1 square as 1 square feet. once I took out all the closets we had more than enough room. so that's what we built.

The covenants say any building under 600 sqft can not have a bathroom inside, but can have 2 on trailers hook up to septic and water. Each one requires a land uses permit.

Wouldnt that "wardrobe" be better suited as a food pantry? Build in some clothing closets up in the loft at each side of the head of the bed floor to ceiling for his & hers.. Like what you see in campers.
@le_th_
@le_th_ 4 күн бұрын
Hard no on carrying clothing up and down those stairs, plus bringing dirty clothes up and down. Those are steps, not true stairs. You might want to take another look at that loft again. There hardly any space on either side of the bed, and you don't want it in front of the bed, where it will block airflow.

Outhouse outside the house! So, there is no bathroom inside if you're under 200 square feet? Why not buy a bigger shed?
@FearlessRambler
@FearlessRambler Күн бұрын
After 200sqft, you need to get a building permit and requires a lot of inspection. Under 200 sqft base, you only require a land use permit. A inside bathroom requires 600 sqft.

I cant figure it out, they allow for the trailer with a bathroom (matter of fact I can have 2 bathrooms), but under 600 sqft, I cant put inside. I don't see the differents, but I am thinking they don't want people living in tiny homes.

They do allow two trailers on the property and a bathroom can be in a trailer. That's why it out back. Stupid law, they did have me put in a septic for a three bathroom cabin before I got the land use permit. It works and a full 3/4 bath. Just a little chilly sometime heading to it.
