White Sharks and their visual acuity underwater is incredibly detailed. They are very cautious about their prey. The sharks are NOT mistaking humans for seals. They know exactly what they're attacking, every time.

Oceanic White tips are the sharks that got the USS Indianapolis sailors. At the time of the Egypt attack they were taking divers out to see the Oceanic White tips with no problems at all. There's an interesting interview with a researcher/dive mistress and she said there was about 5 or 6 attacks all within a few weeks the Egyptian authorities kept covered up.

I grew up in Venice Florida right near the intercoastal waterway. I had a 12 foot John boat with a trolling motor and I lived on the Intercoastal waterway from about 9 to 16. I was one time spearfishing sheepshead in the intercoastal waterway brackish waters. I had a bag stolen from me that was tied to my shorts with about six sheepshead in it. It was stolen by a lemon shark. Yes a lemon shark. I was quite far miles up in the intercoastal waterway probably 3 miles. I was in about 8 to 10 feet of water very clear. The shark came up out of nowhere it brushed into me turned back around before I could spin around it had already taken the bag from in between my butt legs. Thank God that’s all he got from in between my legs! I haven’t heard too much information about lemon sharks being in the intercoastal waterway. The shark was probably 4 to 6 feet. When it brushed into me was like a incredibly sharp micro cheese grater. There was quite a bit of my blood in the water. Needless to say I don’t believe I ever spearfished again. It is an incident I think about often.

Love the show, Hal! After binge watching, I am now absolutely convinced that my ‘ double bump’ was a shark. Date: Summer of 1989. Time: Dusk ( dumbass me, I KNOW BETTER!) Place: approximately 5 yards off the shore of the public beach on Siesta Key, FL I was 28 at the time. I had decided to train for a mini Ironman competition. I was already biking and running well. But, I had no experience with competitive swimming. So I went to the local YMCA and took swimming lessons. The race’s swimming portion would be off the public beach in the Gulf of Mexico. Because I had seen JAWS at an impressionable age, I was going to do my training in the pool. I thought that for sure there would be safety in numbers on the day of the event. I would go to the Y every morning to do laps. And every morning I would get stuck behind the same very Slow swimmers. Being frustrated, I decided to go to the actual location of the swim part of the race to train. I am standing on the beach thinking, wrong time of day (dusk , after work! When you live in paradise, you generally have that ‘pesky paying job’ that limits your beach times to evenings and weekends!) wrong color suit ( I think the tag on this one piece suit said the color was ‘baby seal BLACK’) , this is where Jaw’s meaner, more agile, bull shark cousins live and I’m wearing my fav necklace because the life guard was cute. ( like a necklace meant I was cool? Maybe I wanted it to flash and look like scales???) and with one huge sigh of F_ _ _ IT! I go in to do a few straight runs , BY MYSELF, just off shore, in about waist deep water. ( cuz shark don’t attack in shallow water?) I was probably 1 minute into my swim when something about the size of a fist bumps my right thigh. WTF… I had just learned how to swim freestyle correctly so I rationalized the ‘bump’ as a swirling water sensation as my hand passed by that portion of my thigh. Triple Jesus, Right? So I take a few more stroke and it happens again. This time I am walking, make that running on water to shore. After that I decided that the only open water swim I would EVER participate in from then on would be as a support crew from the shore. I don’t think I have been in the gulf since that day and I am 60 now. Keep up the great show!!

Oceanic whitetips are down as the shark with the most predations on people. These shark are habituated to react to the sound of explosions and noises associated with a sinking ship. This tells me we are on the menu for this shark when they're hungry. They do hunt us. Completely agree with the vision of sharks. They can't "survive" in only freshwater or for exceptionally long periods of time in fresh water (and especially if you just take a shark and throw it into a fresh water tank). But they have a way to retain salt water through kidney salt recycling and retention with another organ that allows them to keep an amount of salt in their system, unlike other sharks, which allows them to go for periods of time into fresh water systems, but they are still a salt water shark, and need to return to the sea. And this system takes them from the saltwater of the ocean through brackish water and into most fresh water, but it works to regulate through these changes. I doubt that system would work by taking a shark from the ocean and throwing it into totally freshwater. I like these videos, but to say research on any animal stopped correctly 30-40 years ago is a strange statement. I think science finds new things out all the time. Keep up the rest of your good work.

bro, i got news for ya, there is an entire lake in Nicaragua infested with bull sharks. This isn't like a "maybe" they were in the Mississippi or anything like that. They have been tagged and studied and initially it was thought they were a unique species of shark until they realized they were just regular old bull sharks. So....pretty sure they can live in fresh water at least for some time. The lake is connected to the ocean via a river and they have tracked tagged sharks swimming up the river which takes anywhere from 7 to 11 days. So assuming a immediate turn around, they can live in fresh water for at least 20 days. But it looks more like indefinitely.....

A Russian woman was attacked in Sharm Al-Sheikh by the same Oceanic White Tip that killed the other woman. In a documentary about it, a dive guide had hand-fed an OWT during a dive with tourists. I know from working on tall ladders painting with other professional painters that the wobbly ladder, questionable footing of your ladder and other things really wear you out. I can't speak for all painters but I believe form first hand experience that 3 out of 4 painters working on tall ladders are impaired on something. So I imagine that this work place stress would be the same. Anyways, I don't feel sorry for the lady. She paid for this experience and got hurt. She willing jumped in the water with hungry makos. I wished you talked a bit more on the poachers life in the Dyer island attack. I heard that when the first start off on the 3 or 4 km swim they swim together until they get to the end of the kelp forest. How they try to space themselves 10m apart from each other. How they have to swim a few hundred meters threw the great white strike zone. How Dryer island has one if not the largest cape seal populations in the world. It has some of the best great white cage watching in the world. Not to mention these people are not "Missed" by authorities if they go missing. It's just a nightmare inducing way of life for these people. Thanks again Hal, Todd

@mrtodddelaroderie
@mrtodddelaroderie 2 жыл бұрын
@ Hedgin Bets From what I've read the Orcas do come through occasionally to hunt the seals. Most often from my understanding just the Orcas sounds will usually scare off the sharks. But for some reason the Orcas kill a great white shark and they eat it's liver, I think this is right. The great whites will scatter off for a few weeks. But it seems like according to what I've read, the will be back in a few weeks. I guess the great white hunger drives them back. The only reason I know this is because the cage diving business gets destroyed when the Orcas come by. So it happens but this is still supposedly one of the best spots for great whites cage diving in the world. I too feel horrible for these poachers. The are migrants and they are treated very poorly by South Africa. They are very poor and their quality of life is horrible. Believe it or not but I've read that a significant amount of people think they are lazy. And that's why the poach for Abalone around Dryer island. Since they only need to make a couple (don't know how many but it seemed like less than 10 dives) to make as much money working 40 hours a week for a year in a physical laboring job. I also read from various tidbits that even the admits that the official number of shark attacks there are way off too. I forget the numbers but the government low balled the number I think around 12. But a local priest and other people in this migrant encampment put the number up to 60 such attacks. It is a horrible situation for these poor people anyway you look at it.

Oceanic White tips are such beautiful Sharks yet creepy cause of their aggressive nature. They’re more curious than other Sharks and if they’re curious about something they’ll go check it out without any fear. They’re usually in Deep Ocean with 1000s of feet of water so they’ll feed any chance they get since food is scarce.

I don’t go into that water. I don’t want to get my ass bitten off. It’s a priority for me to stay unmolested. Unless great white sharks start lurking in my bedroom next to my Xbox or terrorising land by lurking on roads inland.,, I’m in no danger. There's a famous piece of footage where a scientist is convincing this guy to stand thigh deep in water filled with bull sharks. Telling the nervous guy he's in no harm surrounded by the bulls. It just takes seconds for a bull to shred the guy's calf, they get him out of the water and that part of his leg is in ribbons. It's a remarkable piece of film. How the scientist could be so cavalier is a mystery. If you want to put yourself in danger it's up to you, but not someone else.

Great Video Hal! On Shark Week they did a Special on the one you talked about in Egypt 100 % those attacks were from feeding Sharks and the Sharks were conditioned to associate Humans with Food, that is why she was bitten on the hand (Handing Fish) and the Buttocks (Where the bag of fish was kept) Oceanic White Sharks they talked about are deep ocean Sharks, the special said the only reason an Oceanic White Tip was close to shore was because of people feeding them on tours Amazingly they caught 2 of the Sharks from the Attacks in that area, 1 was a Mako with very Unique Teeth I wish I could tell you the exact episode but this attack they definitely analyzed on Shark Week and they nailed it! when Sharks attack.....Sharm-El-Sheikh-Egypt Episode Aired November 4, 2020 Season 6 Episode 6

I finally gathered a few more Sharm attacks yesterday. Will cover the 2 women and 2 men attacked on the same day. That case really stands out. Now i have read it is chickens they were purposely dumping to get the sharks in to get tourist dollars to go see them. I saw the mako they caught. They didnt get the WT tho. Mako crazy teeth as the lowers are the round long pointy teeth like a grey nurse and the uppers more knife like…. I hate the thought of being eaten by any relatively small shark. Alive too long thru the process.

I know a lot of times it wont save the victim but I cant imagine how terrifying it would be knowing a great predator is trying to eat you and how awful it would be to scream for help and no one comes ..
