Great story. Though fictional, it paint's a vivid period (historical) picture. The story is about a a man from the Gikuyu district of Murang'a, who want's to marry a woman from the district of Nyeri during the 1952 State of Emergency where Gikuyu movement and assembly was highly restricted, even criminalized. Besides Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, Kamaru is one of the artists that has contributed most to Gikuyu literature.

Yaani ni kama vile Ngugi Wa Thiong'o ameandika Ngahika Ndenda (I will marry when I want). The story is fictional but it is set in post independence Kenya and showcases the relationship between the Mwananchi andthe Serikali.
