Why do you put legs out vrs criss-crossed and kept inside?

The Tula Explore is designed for legs out only, rather than legs in, because the panel cinches and narrows to allow room for babies legs to come out, while still providing knee to knee support. I'd say the benefits of a carrier designed for legs out vs legs in is its easier to correctly position baby safely in the carrier for new parents. Though some parents prefer legs in style carriers - so a Standard Tula with an infant insert is a great option. (though the Standard Tula doesn't do forward facing, but can still back carry). I'd add to that the doll I'm using doesn't have knees or hips - so it tends to look a lot my splayed out than a real baby would look in a carrier. A real baby would be in an "M" leg position in this style of legs out carriers.

@@ParentingCentral we have the standard one and the infant insert but wanted to use the explorer for the new baby. Is there an age or weight that starts the legs out position? I carried her legs in and she did fine, but don’t want to do it the wrong way. Thanks so very much and thanks for the video fir sure

Hi Jennifer, you can use a Tula Explore from 3.2kgs, which is an average newborn. Personally I would probably wait a couple of weeks old to start using a structured carrier, it's sometimes tricky to get optimal position with a super fresh newborn because they're quite curled up still. But I think most people don't use a carrier in the first couple of weeks anyway. However Tula Explore is officially suitable from 3.2kgs onwards.
