We do of course have and use our translation app on our phone. However, we need internet for that to work and we have not yet acquired a local SIM card so it would only work when we are on the boat using starlink.

I was there in 1977 for a month on my parents sailboat. I think in total we saw fewer than a dozen boats the entire time. Beautiful spot and have two stunning Molas on the wall plus a hand carved paddle we found on the beach. Yes, even then it was forbidden to take coconuts.

Wow, this location is absolutely gorgeous with a heck of a vibe, the locals so happy and friendly! Cool to see that even with broken bits of language, you made it work. Great content, truly inspiring and helps me escape from the grind every day. Some day I hope to experience even a small bit of your travels.

30 yrs ago Cozumels east side was full of plastic too. But back then, cruise ships just dumped everything in the ocean. Every time a hurricane comes ashore tons of garbage goes with it, so it’s a pretty difficult problem. If the islanders clean up an area, there’s a problem of where to dump it.

If cruisers melted plastic into numbers and letters these items could be used to leave messages to others about their boat and their trip. They have various pirate huts that leave messages and dates. Placks, numbers, and letters could be left in bulk for people to use in their art. The machines that are for sale that melt recycled plastic are too expensive. If you slowly turn up the heat on a hot plate you can melt plastic without getting it too hot.

When I was a kid back in the 60's and 70's, most of the stuff that comes in plastic containers today, came in glass. Glass was great because it was easily recycled, and if a moron threw it in the ocean, it would sink. ;) 😉

The biggest reptiles in Florida are the Florida crocodiles. They are up to 20 feet long and 2000 pounds. They are known to catch large dogs in the Florida Keys off the docks. Perhaps if they get larger we might be on their menu.
@RealJustinLongСағат бұрын
The American Crocodile is federally listed as Threatened and protected in the United States with less than 2,000 remaining in the wild. This number is actually higher than it was in the mid 70’s where the population was believed to be less than 300. A large part of this is because of Turkey Point Nuclear Plant and their 10square miles of cooling channels that provide protected waters for them to reproduce. These would also be the same species that would be in Panama, Caribbean, Central America, and down to at least the equator in South America.

I'd give up plastic straws but that's not what washed up on that beach. Plastic bottles, containers, wrappers, packaging and... shoes. Lol. Straws are so not the problem.

I saw a video from Breaking Waves that was several years ago, which showed the clean up of the west coast of Vancouver Island, or a part of it, and they filled a barge. Most of it came across the Pacific from Asia. Just crazy amounts of trash.

The pollution solution is to not pollute. Waste disposal in 3rd world countries is almost non existent or poorly constructed to the point where it's unavoidable. It's unfortunate. Pride in how your area looks goes a long ways to picking it up. Recycling is the key yet it's so costly that people refuse to do it.

That trash plastic is so depressing
@jeepman59828 сағат бұрын
When I visited the Dominican Republic a number of years ago, the one lasting impression I got was the amount of plastic bags and plastic bottles everywhere. The people were great and the views were spectacular but the mess was unbelievable. Someone needs to get some sort of recycling system going. Also, the country relies on diesel generators for power. With all that sun, solar would work wonderfully. Even the expensive resorts, which could afford a solar setup use diesel.

Seen alligators as well as crocodile in the ocean off Florida as well as the Caribbean. I was very surprised to learn both exist between Cuba and Florida in saltwater. Only place in the world that both alligators and crocodile exist side by side in the florida Everglades along with Burmese pythons who have been seen eating a 7 ft alligator. Seen nesting of both are in the tall grasses along the coastal waters. BE CAREFUL JETTY!! Note gators have been seen swimming and nesting along Florida coastline and beaches. Been a resident of Florida for past 70 years so seen it all.

There are a lot of us following your adventures, with more than a thousand watching right now. Each follower is alone ( like me), or part of a small family group, so we see this interaction as a small personal event. When you refer to us as "You guys", the intimate connection is broken, because you are you are addressing the whole audience. May I suggest that you refer to us as "you", just as you would when addressing a visiting member of your family.
