Seeing the maiden sail, a wave breaker in front of the first cockpit would help in keeping that cockpit dry. or something like those kayak skirts.

Very cool, You should redo the plug with glass or acrylic bottom to serve as a looking glass. Like a glass bottom plug to view the depths. Super cool boat tho...happy sailing.

to plug the hole I would use some plywood almost the length of the hole and put an inner tube of a wheelburrrow around it. use a small hand pump to inflate when in the hole and you will have a perfect water tide plug. Beautiful boat you have build.

'Tool Dip' is a rubberish coating that may work for a more water tight fit. Good foam work!
@pauleohl
@pauleohl Жыл бұрын
If you get tired of the foam plug, you can use the same technique to make a cup shaped plug out of fiberglass. Just lay 2 or 3 layers of fiberglass into the waxed well. No matter what, if the plug is not watertight, water will fill the well up to the waterline, but a small leak can be pumped out.

Check out the video of mirage drive vs Olympic paddler. Mirage drive is way more efficient. You probably should recess the drive up into the hull and make the drive wells taller so you don’t flood the boat. Or just raise the entire floor up above the waterline. I would recommend upgrading to a newer mirage drive with kick up fins and reverse! Those older ones are easy to damage in shallow water. And a second mirage drive would be a big improvement also. Or just buy a tandem island… Good first try at building a boat like this though!

I think what you wanted to use was mold release wax. It's not the same as PVA at all. PVA is usually removed with water. Water dissolves it. It's not made to peel off, even if that happens when you pull it. (PVA is mainly used to put on top of gelcoat without wax, in order to cure the top layer. It removes the access for air, hence curing the gelcoat.).

Try and engineer a two piece plastic plug with a rubber seal, one piece would be placed from the bottom under the boat and the second piece would come in from the top and should screw together creating a strong tight seal../ Made out of a solid material not foam
