Saw you doing a wire joint with shrink wrap and thought I'd give up my secret. I've got a little trick that I've used for years whenever doing a wire joint whether it's soldered and shrink wrapped or you use a butt connecter, it's the same. With a butt connecter, you fill it with silicone then crimp it on, done, or you can add shrink wrap. With soldered ends and shrink wrap, you slide the shrink wrap on, solder the ends together, apply silicone, slide the shrink wrap over the joint and heat. The silicone will squeeze out and water will never ever get in. Just make sure you don't get any silicone on where you have to solder before you solder or it won't work. This method has been tested on my motorcycles and sailboats for years now. It works!
