Tulip, Petunia and Stormy. A day in the life of beaver rescue.

Our days have gotten BUSY! Three beavers each with their own distinct needs is keeping us hopping. Thankful for my family as it takes us all working together to make this happen.
Petunia is over 1000 grams and eating solid foods regularly. Tulip is over 50 lbs (just kidding) she weighs in between 25-30 pounds these days. Stormy was 21 pounds upon rescue 😢. Stormy continues to improve and we plan to take him to the vet for a full work up this week.

Three different stages of life in these three. Petunia is a little fire cracker! I can't believe how big tulip is now! But if i lived on nothing but raw fruits and veggies with a side of sticks I 'd be as healthy as she is....minus the sticks for me...ahem. Stormy makes me think of all of us. We've all been through those hard times when all we want to do is snuggle in our beds, and have a friend drop off some food and check on us. I love you stormy. You are brave like tulip and we can wait. Take all the time you need. Thanks Holley.

Petunia has learned how good life is for beavers at the Muraco’s! Watching Tulip follow Colton is just the sweetest thing. I hope she and Petunia can be friends. Poor Stormy is hiding away, but at least he’s eating and active at night. These three completely different beavers are a handful! Beautiful creatures who deserve love and protection!

I did the dishes and then walked the beaver".😂😂😂 On a serious note, it says something sad when Tulip who we know is (and always will be) undersized, weighs more than fully grown Stormy. 😢 That poor guy is less than half the weight he should be. 😢 I hope he has discovered that bananas are good eating. The calories will will certainly help him.

Does Stormy need a healing diet, instead of a typical one?? More protein? Petunia’s the new star 🤩 I forgot what the term is when babies are born ambulatory, with eyes open, etc.. More functional than other mammals. Nature is awesome 🥰

Are you at all familiar with the Abbe-Freeland Animal Sanctuary in Angelica, NY? They also specialize in beavers. I used to volunteer for Foxwood Wildlife Rescue, which is much closer to where I live, and the owner was friends with the owner of Abbe-Freeland, so I used to talk to her once in a while. I never got to meet any of the beavers, as I never got out that way and at Foxwood, we specialized in foxes.

Can I ask why Stormy hasn't been to the vet yet? One would think he should be seen sooner rather than later in case he has a serious underlying problem that caused his massive weight loss. I'm sure there's a reason you're waiting. I'm just curious as to what that is.

Stormy is a wild beaver that made it into adulthood in the wild and so handling him adds to his stress. Holley said that if Stormy hadn't started eating right away she was going to risk the stress to get him to a vet ASAP, but fortunately Stormy has been eating steadily and Holley has decided to give Stormy a chance to regain his strength and decompress a bit from his traumatic ordeal before taking him to a vet.
