Decades of lax spending on intelligence apparatus and military hardware in Europe should have bit them in the ass years ago, but it didn't because America was both corrupt and generous at the same time. Corrupt because Europe's failure to spend meant that the fat-cats in America could live high on the hog on U.S. defense spending that would have otherwise been unnecessary.

As a US citizen and student of history, this is the quintessential pattern for war in Europe: 1. European alliance rests on its laurels after previous victory, having a modest but sufficient defensive force, but not the will to use it. 2. The United States goes through an isolationist phase, and militaristic autocrats get uppity all over the world. 3. The North German Plane goes to hell, Europe struggles to recover due to lack of strategic depth. 4. The United States, having been supplying its allies most of their weapons, gets directly attacked and joins. 5. Cue victory parade and war memorials for the millions dead. Freedom isn't free. 6. Rinse with "Peace Dividend" social spending programs, and repeat. All of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again.

I'm not American, but I remember her from the 2016 presidential election debates. I thought she sounded level-headed and restrained. The media never gave her a fair chance to voice her opinions.
@DisappearingNightly27 күн бұрын
In 2016 Gabbard was not a candidate for president, Instead enthusiastically supported Bernie Sanders' candidacy for the democratic presidential nomination. In 2020 she ran for president herself -- among her platform and policy positions, she was staunchly pro-choice, in favor of increased federal spending, a proponent of green new deal energy policies, in favor of banning bump stocks, in favor of rigorous background checks for gun purchases, in favor of single-payer national healthcare, and on immigration, harshly criticized the first trump administrations "inhumane" border policies. In other words, she was diametrically opposed to just about the entire maga/trump/republican party agenda, until suddenly, everything changed and she backtracked on a lot of things. You have to ask yourself, has she really abandoned most of her previously stated beliefs, the same policy positions she voiced to the people in her district in Hawaii during her congressional campaigns and to the nation as a presidential debates? But if so, why? I don't know the answer to that, but I've never trusted politicians who easily and rapidly shed their skin like that for the sake of political gain, which appears to be what she in fact did. Regardless of where you stand on any of the issues outlined above, the bigger question is, where does Tulsi Gabbard stand on those issues? Can we trust what she says? Will she undergo another radical shift again soon? I don't think anyone can say for sure with any certainty.

I’ll say, as someone who has listened to a lot of interviews of Gabbard recently specifically to learn who she is and what part she will play in this new administration, the idea that she has ever repeated Kremlin talking points, or even likes Russia, is obscenely wrong, and blatant misinformation. She does not like Russia, and has said so outright, she’s just intensely anti-interventionist because of her time in the military, which you hardly mentioned. She also did 3 tours in the Middle East, and served for many years in the military, watching many of her close friends be killed in combat. The idea she is in anyway supporting another country over the USA is blatant misinformation and you should be ashamed for even implying it. She actually gave up her chance at reelection so she could be deployed even though she was exempt because of her political status. She is a stalwart patriot of the United States. The left wing governments that control much of Europe are scared of the sudden shift right in American politics because of the potential for that shift to influence European politics and remove them from power. They are running a smear campaign on the new US administration, and it’s honestly pathetic. It’s propaganda Simon, and bad propaganda at that.

I don't know Ms Gabbard personally, but I have now and then seen her discuss global and military affairs on KZbin videos for the past ten years or so, and while I agree with some points she makes and not with others, on the whole, she has seemed consistently sane and reasonable. My sense is that she is certainly in no way a "Russian asset," nor did she "cosy up" to Assad - she just took a meeting. What she actually is is a peacenik: she disagrees with the constant warmongering and disastrous regime-change operations the US Establishment foreign policy Beltway swamp has been engaged in for decades. She isn't onside with the neocon global-hegemonist perpetual war agenda. She's a potential change agent. That's why they fear and hate her, that's why they're trying to prevent her confirmation by the Senate. The idea that she might pass secrets to the Russians or something like that is ridiculous bullshit; no one believes that. That's just calumny they're spreading in an effort to discredit her. Changing actual facts into fiction is hardly what the US needs. Mouth-piecing Russian propaganda in a very powerful position that's supposed to be wholly unbiased is on the other hand what's perfect for Putin Please please educate yourself. Read the sources given in this video, compare them with the sources you've got that would suggest anything otherwise, and use your brain to reflect for once. Don't just *assume* that since you voted for them they'll act in your best interests, and that any evidence to the contrary would have to be fabricated. They won't. Politicians and businessmen alike are excellent at making people believe that, but it's only for themselves. Especially in America that's how it's pretty much always been. America's system has always been weak, government never actually working for the people, and the only two parties have for a while now only endorsed presidential candidates that have been puppets of the corrupt; a completely failed democracy, and it's not just the democrats that's at fault for that, but what Trump is doing is basically leading you into the society of what "Russia 2.0" would look like. The same people whose influence Americans for the last century have fought against with great effort and at a great cost of lives. Not to mention money - which should be important to add as I know Americans value it over lives I hope you'll still be alive to feel the bitterness of the betrayal from the people you look up to now, because they're gonna demand sacrifices from you all. From Americans and from the rest of the world, both. Please stay safe and prepare for the worst of what's to come. God bless you.

I usually enjoy Simon's shows, but he has talked about this coming for awhile now. He has spoken about how other Nato nations were not pulling their own weight in the past few years, now he says about 50% are. Trump warned all of Nato to step up and 50% didn't in all those years, which Simon has agreed with in different videos of his. Now the U.S. is probably gonna pull back a bit (more than likely won't leave Nato or main economic allies unless pushed out) try to clean their own house and finances because keeping the Western alliance together is expensive and breaking the U.S. The U.S. is expected to pay 892 billion in interest on its dept in 2024 and is only going to get worse quick.
