This was apparently one of several poems Shailendra-ji had written that were unpublished....Along with Tadap Yeh Din Raat Ki. Both were then selected and set to music by Shankarji and used for Amrapali. Film was a commercial failure at the time but has been greatly appreciated in later decades for its superb music, costumes, etc. Lekh Tandon (the director) stated in an interview that this film had such strong demand that the producer was generating consistent profits by licensing rights for film schools, art cinemas, etc.

Rob Shastri, I am sorry to say, although the story was so powerful, and evrything else, but the biggest flaw might be the acting quality. Especially Sunil Dutt ji, acted so poorly, which looked more awkward when he shared the screen with Vyjaynti Mala ji. Her acting was much powerful, although not flawless.
