So I literally just did this exact repair on my 07' Tundra, have watched your video so many times before starting, and had my phone mounted playing the video the entire time, thanks for this walkthrough, she rides so smooth now and I saved so much damn money, thank you

Thanks! It's insane what car repairs can cost. If I can DIY, I definitely prefer to save the cash.

I'm in the same situation. I guess I'll try the dorman units and if they start to fail at least I can drive the Toyota axles somewhere to get the bearing hub assys installed. Thanks for the video!

Hey, thanks for the video! It was good to see someone else do the process before I tackled it. I had a humming bearing at 50k miles and just finished up my right side.

thank you, I was able to watch your video and replace the entire axle assembly for half the amount it would have cost me to pay someone to replace the bearing. The parking brake was a little confusing but I think I figured it out...

Phenomenal video! Very informative and thorough. Tremendous help to all of us out here attempting to do the same to our Tundras. Nice work! I would add that most brake rotors on Tundras have a 1/4-20 threaded hole that you can use a 1/4-20 bolt to push the stuck rotor off the axle. Cheers!

Thanks for this! Changed mine out today and it went pretty smooth. The only advice I could give is if you have high miles or a lot of corrosion/dirt build up, you might want to have a wheel speed sensor on hand. Mine was fused in and I couldn't get it out without breaking it off, not a big deal though, easy fix. Also, if you don't have help with the parking brake hardware, I found that taking two zip ties and compressing the little spring allows you to get all the components together (although still tricky) and once you have one side in place, cut the zip ties and it will expand and hold. And test fit the two bolts before drilling out the holes, Doorman might have fixed it, mine seemed like there was extra room after drilling them out, should have test fit it first but no loss by drilling them.

Doing this job right now on left side on my 2010. Rust killed the ABS sensor and parking brake brackets and the bearing is shot. Took me awhile to find the parts too. Great work and video, thank you!

Ill check summit. Thanks for leaving info in comments ai just saw. Usually out of stock or expensive as heck for one side and roughly $400 for other side everywhere I looked. My 11 cewmax 5.7 4x4 has been grinding and making noise from rear end for almoat 30k miles now and the truck only has 50k on it. Dealer wouldnt cover it back when it started so I just been dealing with it. Now that I have a spare vehicle I really need to get it fixed.

Yeah, it can be hard to find it at a decent price and in stock. I had the same issue. I had to wait about 2 months for one because it was on backorder. Good luck!

Keep in mind Dorman is not oem, but at least now you have a spare oem axle to rebuilt with oem/name brand parts.....for either side. Fyi, Megazip and impex out of Japan sometimes have crazy low prices on some Yoda parts and others.... and not just cars..... In my case it's not the bearing but the backing plate that is a rusting crumbling joke, I guess it compliments the peeling, scratch prone paint, I wonder if I can get the replacement backing plates stripped and hot dipped galvanized. .....the tundra while better than the Detroit brands is barely a toyota. I had an made in Japan, "hilux" 20r 4cyl, 4 speed in the eighties, it was an unbelievable work horse, eventually rusted to dust with over 300k miles, but the driveline, and interior were perfect.....

Be careful with these Dorman axle assemblies. Just installed one on my 2006 Tundra with drum brakes. When I received the new axle assembly , I found the axle bearing wasn't pressed all the way into the hub. Solved that by putting axle back in the housing and slowly tightening the bolts until the bearing was seated. What really pisses me off is after reassembling everything, rhe drum brakes the worse job, you need superhuman strenght to get the springs on. After that work, I noticed the ABS tone ring wasn't centered in the hole. Was pressed too far forward. Uggh! I did measure the axle seal ring to make sure the distance was the same as the old axle, but not the tone ring. Truck runs smoothly now but ABS kicks in around 5 mph when stopping and makes crazy noise . The misaligned tone ring is the issue. I'm pulling the abs fuses out to solve the noise issue until I can pull the damn axle out and realign the tone ring. About 1/2 inch should do it. Bottom line the axle assembly didn't have the bearing installed correctly and the tone ring was not the correct distance. Measure abs wheel and axle seal ring distances before the install! Using the old OEM axle as a guide

I think this is EXSACTLY what mine is doing 2015 with 90k it seems to do it only after awhile of driving especially at highway speed ..
@professionalweekenders2 ай бұрын
You can remove the wheel speeds are pretty easily. Start there to see if it's covered in grease or not. If it's not it's likely just the wheel speed sensor is bad. If it's covered in grease, then the bearing is shot.

@@professionalweekenders yes it’s been replaced once already.. it does have a after market sensor in it currently for the last 2 years .. but i just purchased the xtool A30m so i can see the live and graph to see if it the sensor cutting a issue with the bearing/tone ring.. I jacked the truck up and spun the wheel and didn’t notice any un normal noise .. who knows could be the other one lol.. hence the scan tool purchase.. only thing that’s ever gone wrong on this truck lol
