Like others have said, I almost decided I had the wrong connector, did one more KZbin search before I gave up, and discovered through your video I just needed to slide that dang plug cover off. Thanks so much for posting!

Thank you so much for posting this. I have the same truck and when I saw that plug I thought, dam I bought the wrong adapter. Then I watched you pull off that cover. Never would have realized it.

You sir are a lifesaver. I’m supposed to be leaving at 4 AM to go pick up my new dump trailer two states away and I was trying to install my new brake controller that just showed up on an Amazon truck Earlier today and I was so frustrated because I thought they sent me the wrong harness until you showed that bit about how you have to remove the old wire harness cover from the truck first before the new one will meet up to it. I was just about to message the company that sent it all mad about the situation until I watched your video. Thank you so much you’ve definitely just made my day!

Super informative video, thank you for the detailed run down you made this hookup and process easy for me and I’m sure for a lot of others.

Oh man, thank you for taking the time to post this. I just (half hour ago) ordered a brake controller and harness on amazon after locating the white plug on my Tacoma. Mine has that cover over it that you had to remove. I did not see your video until after I'd ordered the controller and harness. I'm not sure I would have noticed the cover needed to be taken off. I might have just assumed I got the wrong harness and gone off on a wild goose chase. I think you just saved me a lot of time and frustration. THANK YOU again.

this is too dang perfect. I have an 05 tundra with the tow package. However, I also have an aftermarket security, backup cam, stereo system etc. so my wiring is kind of insane. But you made it much easier. Thanks man

Thank you sir, this was really informative. I don’t think I’d have found that, and I’ve been around cars a fair amount. Great find.

My local trailer supply sold me a Tekonsha controller and he said he looked and said it wasnt hard wired. He had to put a hard wire in for an additional 125 dollars. I saw this video, and I found mine because I had the hitch and the 7 plug connector next to it. I was told that my 7 pin did not have the blue wire, well now I know that he cut the wire and spliced the new one. I will be returning tomorrow to ask the owner to make it right. wow

Well done and much appreciated. I would also appreciate a follow up including how you mounted the controller. Could you explain how the controller relates to the 7 blade connector at the rear? Is the controller "In Line" of the system?

Hello sir , my tundra has the 7 pin but no control box . Is that why I have lights but no trailer brakes ? Is that control box necessary to use the trailer brakes ?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The connector in my 2012 Tacoma was above and behind where you found yours and had to cut it loose. It was not taped like yours, but was out of sight behind other wires and didn't have the protective cover you found on yours. I had to pry a couple of wire bundles apart to find it. I've looked at three other videos and have gone out to the truck four times, but your video put me onto it. Thanks again. Jack

Did you have a 7 pin plug at the rear already? My 2002 has the 4 pin. Wondering the best route to convert this to a 7 pin.
@tailgatetalk4 жыл бұрын
If you have a 4 pin in the rear, this video does not apply to your set up. 4 pin means that it is not pre-wired for towing and you will have to pull a new wire to the rear bumper. That's an entirely different process that what I'm doing here. I recommend you find a local shop that installs hitches and get them to run the new wires. It will cost about $150 but worth every penny. Thanks for watching and the like & subscribe!

I have tundra 2010 but when i want fo install the plug 3040 I didn’t find the oem plug and my car have the back trailer plug i saw how many videos in KZbin how install the 3040 plug but when go near from the emergency break I don’t find any idea please.

Do you have a 4 pin flat or a 7 pin round connector on the bumper? Only if you have the 7 pin will this video work for you. The 4 pin is a different installation with new wiring that has to be installed from the the brake controller to the rear bumper. Find a local hitch installation shop. Some UHaul businesses will do it. It should cost about $150 and worth it. Thanks for watching and the like & subscribe!
