I have the exact same mower. I’ve had it for 4 years and haven’t changed the oil yet 😬. In my defense, it’s only used for a small portion of my yard that is hilly and bumpy where my dogs go to the bathroom. I’m changing the oil and air filter today. Blade is in good shape. Thanks for the video.

My mower quit in the middle of the yard. I’ve changed spark plugs and oil before, but struggled with the plug cover in the mower. When I saw you struggle a little, it made me feel better. Lol. I also didn’t know that Home Depot had the tune up kit and I WORK THERE! Thanks for the video! The mower is running great again.

Deck wash does work. Use it after every use. Close off fuel. Hook up hose and run water full pressure. Start mower and let it run until out of fuel. No massive clumps of grass left ever

My Honda Mower Engine, same as yours, uses the NKG BPR5ES except when used in pressure washers. The BPR5ES has a wider temperature range tolerance and is called out in the GCV160/GCV190 engine manual, page 10, as the recommended spark plug for all applications EXCEPT Pressure Washers.

Thank you. I plan to try this tune up this weekend. A little nervous but hopeful that I can do it. My mower sounds terrible and definitely needs a new blade! It is Craftsman but not sure if it’s the same model. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for this video sir. I just got mine today and haven't used it yet. The red throttle handle (idk what it's called) didn't come attached, but I think I put it on correctly. Also, I was told that boat gas is best to use because it won't gum up the carburetor. What are your thoughts about the boat gas?
@YouMadeMeLawn2 жыл бұрын
The bail handle is easy to attached, ethanol free fuel is best, but very expensive. The great thing about this mower is the fuel shut off value. Turn the valve off, and run the carburetor out of fuel. It will save your carburetor jets from being being gummy.

Great video, but I do have a question, do you keep the gas in the tank while cleaning / replacing the blade?
@YouMadeMeLawn3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it shouldn’t hurt anything keeping the gas in the tank. If you tip the mower sideways, ALWAYS tip it oil cap side down (carburetor side up). You could use the fuel shut off valve to stop the flow of gas as well if you want.

Cool! My problem is that every time I tip my mower over for any reason, it never wants to start again. So I'm traumatized to even change the oil.

I bet I know the issue. Always tip the mower oil cap side down, gas cap up. If you tip the other way you flood the engine and it won’t start.

10W-30 is what I use in all of my mowers
@jsx03284 жыл бұрын
cleaning your mower after every use would make a lot more sense than letting it get caked up. That's honestly really bad for the mower
@YouMadeMeLawn4 жыл бұрын
True statement - if I cut and the lawn is wet and sticking to the mower then I scrape and clean it. If the grass is dry it doesn’t cake under the deck like in the video.
@cliffontheroad2 жыл бұрын
Everyone follows the mfgr's recommended oil for they know best, right? I disagree. Multi-grade detergent suspends the particles which the filter would collect but there is no filter in a lawn mower. Old school, including my dad I referenced in your 'using' video, one runs straight 30 weight NON-detergent oil. (and what ever happened to cleaning a spark plug? LOL) I don't own a snow blower, where the 10W (10W-30) seems correct because I know how freezing weather and a kick start Harley using 60W is an adventure. Who mowes grass in winter? Wish I could get a definitive answer out of someone on lawn mower oil. Shame on you for not cleaning the underside every time. :) I use a flat file on the blade and in the absense of a balancer, a nail into a wall stud will work. Overall, your video helped people. good job.
