Great video! I just want to say regarding not being able to do somethings without a filters. I've been able to come up with my own flow to blend multiple exposures using photoshop to emulate an ND filter. I primarily use this if I want a really long exposure and my 10-stop ND filter isn't enough. I import all the exposures into Lightroom, do a little white balance/exposure matching. Then important into Photoshop as layers, auto align all layers and then mean blend. While it requires more work, I like the flexibility of this flow, since it allows you to mask out certain parts of the image that you may not want to be long exposure (trees in the wind)
@librasulus
@librasulus Жыл бұрын
Certainly, you can replicate an ND filter. I have done it using photo stacking, most photo editors have that option. However it does need some time and effort to take the right amount of photos (over 5) and process them, especially if they are not aligned 100%. Using an ND filter is much much simpler - if you can afford it.

Great informative video . Please can I ask you some advice , I’ve recently bought a dji Mini 3 drone . It has a fixed Appature although you can adjust shutter speed and iso . Been it’s a mini drone the sensor is very small . I’ve been getting overexposed pictures at sunset even when I slow shutter speed right down , or I can’t see the land scape . The best I’ve managed is using its hdr 3 photo mode helps a bit . So I’ve been looking at what’s available and free well sell 2 6 packs , 1 pack has just ND I think 4 to 128 called all day pack , They also sell for a little more money a sunny day pack of 6ND filters with polariser incorporated in all the filters . I do prefer getting photos and videos on sunny days and with water in my pics , but I live in UK and we don’t get a whole lot of sun . My question is if I use a polorised ND filter on let’s say an overcast day , or with no water . Using the 2nd set of sunny day pack of lenses , Is there any adverse affect ? I don’t want to buy both sets of filters unless it’s neccery. Or do I need just ND filters if I want motion blur and my pics not overexposed ? I’m also getting in to photography since I started with my drone and when I get the camera I want I will go with the best filters you talked about . Thanks in advance and pls excuse my spelling !

Your video is great ! I'm figuring out what filter system works out best for me (every type of photo + video) Either a high end vnd for video + fixed filters for photos, or a very high end vnd magnetic system + cpl and mist for everything. I'm trying to get the best quality and convenience. Any tips ? Do cpl from hign end vnd work well ? With vnd's though I think you can combine less filters together that would would with fixed filters (for instance nd + cpl + mist)

Regarding UV filters for protection: UV filters can have a very minor effect on color rendition. The reason for this is that the filtering effect doesn’t suddenly go from 0% to 100% at the threshold of visible to UV light. Rather, the filtering effect starts within the visual spectrum and ramps up to full effect within the UV spectrum. So if you want to use a filter solely for protection, use a clear filter instead. As the name implies, these “filters” are optically clear with no actual filtering effect at all. And as always, the better, more expensive clear filters are more truly clear than cheap ones.

Are you talking about the IR filters that are built directly onto sensors? Because the IR filters that go in front of the lens filter out all light except for IR, which is a very cool artistic effect, but very uncommon in photography and nearly unheard of in videography.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel Camera and the older Canon film EOS Rebel, and what you don't cover is my category of camera in the context of quality is non-professional quality filters. I did find the discussion of types of filters very informative, but it is hard to see why I should pay more for a camera filter than for my eyeglasses. So, for me the issue boils down to whether or not to use a filter at all. My first thought was for lens protection and cleanliness, but your presentation made me consider a CPL filter. In actual practice most of our photos today are taken with our smart phones, and there are filter sets and supplemental telephoto and macro lenses for those too. I have not seen any reviews on those, but the space savings is substantial.
@Nateinthewild
@Nateinthewild Жыл бұрын
There are very cheap filter options on the market. If you saw what a CPL does in my video and you like that, then you can absolutely find a CPL that costs $30 instead of $250. The quality will be substantially less, but that's a choice you can make! I started out with a filter like that, and it was great for learning. :)

My problem when it is sunny and will make a photo whits a lens 1.8 full open. Than the camera blinking ad 1/8000. Than you use also the ND filter (film makers). When you will isolad the back ground. Look out whits cheap variable ND not only the contract lost but you can take fat cross line in you photo. Look out for the price maybe cheap but not the real one.

Lightroom has a "dehaze" option to get rid of haze in a photograph. 👌
@Nateinthewild
@Nateinthewild 11 ай бұрын
Yes of course, but that should be a backup option to a polarizer. The image quality will *always* be much better by removing the light reflected by the haze particles in camera rather than digitally "enhancing" the image to remove haze.

I am sure, that if you compare a 30.00 to a 100+ would probably make little difference, I do not think would be night and day difference. I cannot seem to find a youtube video on difference.

Can we use ND filter to shoot Milky Way considering lowering light pollution
@Nateinthewild
@Nateinthewild 2 жыл бұрын
No. An ND filter makes the frame darker, which is the exact opposite of what you want while shooting the milky way.
