Hi Spencer. What a brilliant tutorial ! I am a recent subscriber. I currently own a number of filters, pretty much all available types, except the UV (I use the lens hood) and graduated filters (as I seem to be able to reproduce reasonable results in post). I wish I found this video 3 years ago when you made it. I have seen very few videos on filters, having mostly read articles on the subject. I have spent (wasted) a lot of money on filters until I found what I currently own. I am very, very glad I found your KZbin channel. I am steadily working through all your videos, and I am learning a lot. So, please do continue to make these detailed videos. I know you spend a lot of time putting them together, and they are very content rich - but it is all very useful and all very practical advice. Thank you for your excellent work :)

Photography Life, there is not a lot of information on difference between soft and hard edge graduated ND filters at different focal lengths. Especially for enthusiasts like me who do not have access to the information which circulates within professional photographers. Coupled with the article on different lenses for different types of landscapes, this makes for such a comprehensive understanding of Landscape Photography for enthusiasts like me who are still learning how to progress and improve. I must state that the level of information provided here and the length of the video is absolutely spot on. I am an experienced photographer and still learnt some information from this video. Both your presentation and content were flawless in reality. In comparison with other “how To Videos” or informational videos this is head and shoulders above them. You asked for feedback on the format etc, I personally think this length is perfect. No single point mentioned was labored or too detailed, just the facts and information. Just the right length to drink my coffee too. Your personal recommendations make good sense and seem to be very credible. I have a selection of the filters you discuss here, but I have never really used them extensively, only in certain situations. I will now start to use the ND and Polarizing ones more and will probably throw my old UV ones away! Thank you and looking forward to more from you. Suggested topic if you haven’t done it already is how to get really sharp images, both with static subjects and fast moving (Sports) subjects etc. Once again thank you for the effort put in here and passing on this information in a very professional package.

Hey Jim, I just happened to have come back from Glacier National Park two days ago. I thought I would give you a friendly heads up that most of the park is CLOSED. They’re still letting people in but depending on what you plan to shoot, you may not have much access to the more popular spot. Hopefully since the holiday is over they might be letting more people in and open up more spots. Good luck.

That was a very clear and useful presentation. I hadn't realised the efffect of aperture on grad hardness either. Thanks! When it comes to making long or short videos - I think if you decide on what level of experience you want to teach to, then take as much care as you usually do with the presentation then the length will be what it needs to be. That's me being sincere, not me trying to be clever. This video was about the right length for its subject, it wasn't difficult to sit through in case there was anything new to me. The only improvement I could suggest would be to supply a list of the times at which each type of filter was introduced, perhaps even making it a link, just to make it easier to revisit any bits of special interest.

Hey Spencer, thanks again for another great video… you mentioned at the end about the length of videos you were considering,, ‘frequency vs content’,, honestly I don’t normally watch a whole video unless it (and the presenter) is engaging, which I’m sure is true for a lot of viewers.. in saying that, given what you deliver and how you do it, I personally prefer the longer, more in depth videos.. just my two cents worth…👍🏽 thanks again.

Wow! What a super job, well planned out, presented clearly and understandable, just a great job. Now, personally I like the longer more complete presentations ( need to slow down just a bit in your speaking) that covers every details. A little bit disappointed that you didn’t mention brands recommendations; but that okay since I did all my research and I settled on the Wine Country. Lots of reasons and you very well know why; separation rotating polarizer, all glass, all coated, on and on. It’s a no brainer - that is IF, IF, you can afford it. Oh, well. I even like that cases they offer (made by another company for their filter system) simply the best I’ve ever seen. Save a little longer and buy the best ..... period my friend. Good job.👍
@PhotographyLifeChannel4 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate it, Ralph! Glad you like the longer video length. Wine Country is an excellent filter company - you’re certainly right about the price though. It’s out of my range, but I’ve been happy with NiSi, B+W, and Lee for my filters. Talking about specific brands is hard, though, because I’ve seen both good and bad filters from almost every company. (The highest-end ones like Singh-Ray and Wine Country being exceptions; I don’t think they make a bad filter.)
