If you plan on pushing BIG horsepower (1000+) the STI is probably the better option, it's engine has been around much longer and has decades of aftermarket behind it. If you want something practical that you can still mod to be fast, go with the WRX. Newer and more reliable engine, is very responsive to modding (people are reliably making upwards of 400+ on the stock block). I'm at 325 whp on mine and I am STILL getting 27-30mpg so already beating the STI in terms of fuel economy and horsepower lol.

Stage 1 on the WRX makes it a complete different monster. Stock tune pulls timing all through out top end. I have yet to run an SI. Great video though 👍

Yeah these cars feel awful after the initial punch. With the cobb stage 1 it feels like they balanced it with the rest of the powerband. I never get to race anyone to see what she does tho... i need to see my quarter mile

I own a si but I test drove a new wrx. The wrx was not only smoother but it was fast to me. I really really would of got one if the numbers would of been better. Plus I was worried about reliability of the wrx and also resale value. Great race. I’m very impressed.

He's on stock wrx tune and there's no reason for u to know this if you dont own one but the stock tunes makes u have to shift slower due to "rev-hang" othwise there's alot of drivetrain shock. If he stage 1's he would likely shift faster and make for a very interesting race.

I know this is late to the party, but I raced a 2016 wrx tuned on Cobb base map tune. With my 2019 si on phearable 1.5 tune and I had the wrx by about a car length. My si has mishimoto intercooler, intake, and full race catback exhaust. The wrx was on invidia catback and Cobb intake. Overall close race but my si had it

My nephew working on his 2020 Honda Civic Si, K-Tuner TSP Stage 1, PRL Cobra Race Maf Intake, PRL Downpipe/Frontpipe and Greddy DD-R Exhaust. All I can say is wow this little 1.5T moves and the tq is crazy. Btw I would skip the intercooler and just go for Down/Frontpipe combo

Great video 👍, I had a 2017 wrx muffler delete but I had the Cobb intake and catted non resonated downpipe shit sounded so good, stage 2 Cobb ots tune and would 0-60 under 5 seconds, it was a lease though... lol. Got rid of it now in the 2019 Si paying almost half the price with gas and lease payments and the amenities in it are much better but both great cars. Can’t believe the Si kept up with it. I love the Si more and more each day

Great video, lots of good info from your friend and some good pulls. Not bashing, but I laugh when I hear the civic horn. An upgrade you might want to consider is a horn upgrade. I did this to my 10th gen Civic Sport Touring. Used a plug and play horn from College Hills Honda for under $20. Search You Tube for sound comparison. No cutting or soldering. Just had to remove the passenger side "fake" grill that surrounds the fog light for access. Took about 20 mins. Sounds more aggressive now. Thanks for the good content and camera angles. Keep it up.

It's kinda funny because a stage 1 MK7 will pull on STI's and easily walk away from a WRX. The only times I have trouble is when the pavement isn't dry or when I am on these damn winter tires. I haven't had an issue with WRX's with the Cobb sticker on them and that was with everything stock and an OST from MAPerformance. I reverted to the stock tune (benefits of an AP) cause during the winter I was having problems passing even at highway speeds if I went into boost around 3k I would spin...once everything is done I am hoping to either get a protune through Stratified or a local shop.

It is not the same engine as the brz engine. The FA20D (often referred to simply as the FA20) is the 200-flywheel horsepower naturally-aspirated version found in the BRZ, FR-S and 86; while the FA20F (mistakenly referred to as the FA20T, since it is turbocharged) is found in the WRX's. They are similar engines but not identical.

Lol I had my first race today in my 9th gen 2013 si (had it for about 2 years) against from what I believe was a wrx like this one. It was so funny. You would have been cracking up if you were with me. It was basically On Main Street too in the city by me lol. It was a second gear pull for me and I jumped out on him huge and then I shit the bed after that lol. Wasn't paying attention to my tach, And I ran it up to the redline/fuel cutoff and by the time I got it in 3rd and back on it he drove around me lol. I'm still laughing about it. Won't do that again! I just got flustered I'm sure. Only way to learn tho is trial and error. Thank god for fuel cutoffs or my motor would have been toast.

Aaron C. I used to own a G35 tuned to 315 hp to the wheels and a 350Z with the HR engine. Don’t get me wrong the VQ platform is great and instant torque for a fact. But the problem of them is their weight. They’re so heavy, a TSP Stage 1 Si is pushing 240 whp and 312 lb/tq. So to the crank is pushing around 300 hp. While the Si is literally almost 700 lbs lighter than any Z and G. So yes it will win.

The FA20D engine in the BRZ is NOT the same as the FA20F engine in the WRX. Aside from having different compression ratios, the FA20D has port and direct injection (Toyota’s D4S system)

It’s funny what he said about wrx vs sti though because I have a 2015 STI and my buddy’s 2016 wrx couldn’t keep up in the long runs, short runs were good but a normal wrx lacks a lot more power in the top end compared to the sti, I think he was in a bit of denial that STIs are always the better WRX but that’s okay.

Damn it I wanted to like the video. my 2020 STI has the EJ engine and they're only making 310 horsepower to the crank in the American Market. you're not getting the EJ engine Rumble because of the equal length headers all of the WRX and STI 2015 to 2020. In 2020 Subaru plans on retiring big EJ engine can't wait to see what they have in store for us next
