With Calvin using a hedge trimmer, I was worried what kind of bleed video this might be.

given Calvin's standard behavior with cable cutters, truly expected the hedge-trimmer to go right through the hose 😊

Thanks for making this one! I have a pedicab with a reservoir at the brake lever much like this and there aren't very good instructions for how to do a bleed on it. Although it's got a big go-kart brake in the rear, this technique should translate well.

Great video! I'm sure you could add the old technique of pressuring the system strapping the lever and a quick open close on the caliper bleed port.
@mannys9130

That's the most commonly used method, but my favorites are first and foremost top down pressure bleeding followed by down top reverse pressure bleeding (shown here). Top down pressure bleeding is great because you start with a full master cylinder of new clean fluid and you push all the naturally accumulated trash in the caliper directly out the bottom with new clean fluid. It's so fast that all air is pushed out right away. Boom, perfect flush. When that method isn't possible (like here, not really a good way to mount a pressure adapter unless you custom make one) reverse pressure bleeding is my second best. The clutch slave cylinder on 1980s Mercedes and 1980s-1990s BMW cars are EXTREMELY hard to bleed using the pedal pump and bleed screw method. It was impossible for me to do after 2 hours of trying. It took 5 minutes to fully fill and bleed the system by reverse bottom top bleeding with a pump. For filling a new system full of air, it makes perfect sense. Air wants to naturally go up to the master, so reverse bleeding works with that natural flow.

To Me the big question is where did the old fluid go? Leaking from where
@mannys9130
@mannys9130 3 жыл бұрын
Valid question for sure, although it is normal for fluid level to drop as the brake pads and the rotor wear with normal usage over time. I'm an ex-auto technician, and when a vehicle is brand new with a full reservoir, the wearing out if brake pads will often trigger a "brake" light to display on the dash due to low reservoir fluid level. When the caliper pistons or wheel cylinders are pushed back to their starting point, the reservoir returns to almost full (since the rears are usually not fully worn or fully new anymore.

That was good to see! Not unlike Bleeding motorcycle brakes but those you fill at the reservoir and suck it out through the caliper.
