This song sums up my depression and anxiety. It simultaneously makes me sad a comforts me all at the same time. People can try to help, but this is the only thing that makes me feel okay. I jsut wish he could see his music is pulling me up from the mud. RIP.

It's quite sad that Mark's songs only have a few thousand views and few comments from years ago we should honor him by telling people about him. To go like all his good songs, buy his cd's, view his songs, and of course leave comments on each of them so it won't look so empty

Buying his music isn't going to do much for him now that he's dead.

Naganahara Mio Funerals and memorials don't do much to the dead either. but they do to the living and serve as celebrations of their legacy.

undocumentedspot I'm not saying not to listen to his music. I'm saying don't pay EMI, the company that withheld his record for a childish dispute and drove him into the depression that lead to his death.

I recall seeing Sparklehorse play in 2006 in London. I recall the feeling as the lights dimmed and the band started a simply wonderful intro with brushed drums and strings... out came Mark and sat at his piano. He quietly addressed the crown with a simple 'Good Evening' and began playing. During that set he played many of his wonderful songs, none quite had the impact that Sad and Beautiful World had though. The audience silent and still as this man poured out his heart in verse... wonderful...

This video really is just right for "Sad & Beautiful World" and it's just right for that Sparklehorse feel. If a DVD of Sparklehorse videos is ever put out, I hope they include this on it. Just beautiful.

It's funny how people always latch onto how "dark" and "sad" Mark's music is, but I've never seen it that way. His songs are sad AND beautiful, often able to contain both or somehow float around in the gray areas between. Like this one, "Sad and Beautiful World", it's just precisely that. Ultimately, it gives me kind of an uplifting feeling. Same goes for the rest of his work. There's beauty in there to be found, equal or more to the sadness, just don't think about his suicide or the reasons why

Oh my God, same here! How could we not adore him who has this fantastic taste in music and everything else! This song in particular oddly suits him, his intense and yet puppy sad eyes. And I also feel oddly lucky and special I got introduced the beautiful songs of Sparklehorse by TOP, the man. :-) AND very happy to share with you, Cecilia! I mean who bothers to go this extra mile when it was just background songs HE used to playing at night. But you did go far and I did, too. :-)

Swedish fictional detective Wallander's "Sidetracked" featured Sparklehorse's It's a Wonderful Life last Saturday on UK TV's BBC Four. The wintry Danish scenery in this wonderfully atmospheric version of Sad and Beautiful World could have come straight out of other Wallander episodes, filmed in the rural Skane region of southern Sweden.

His heart comes throught in dripping shades of melting tourtured silica sand and all the fire flames so high only to bring a great diamond closer. Down to the earth...to the earth where he will melt into the sand and someday be loved so dearly, by the ones that discovered him. The ones that loved him TRUE!

It's ones beliefs that suicide is selfish and at some points it is, however those whov have taken their life can get past the grief no matter how hard they try. Sometimes it is so deeply engraved into our soul and it becomes all that is known. Sometimes peace for one is sadness for others. Regardless if one believes it selfish or not, he is gone and we have the music to help us. So honor the simple fact of the music. Not sit an question what's been done an for why.

Please dont use the genius of Mark Lincous for you political views. Its a sad and beautiful world because its coming from the mind of a manic depressive. Mark wrote music to keep from going insane. When he and his wife split, it was to much for him to take and he ended his own live, the one task he spent his life trying not to do.
