Being honest..... the black box computer that runs these trucks from the factory sucks as far as freedom to tune and get the maximum performance out of your OBS Chevy Truck, even SBC LT1s can do this swap. The Holley is definitely superior, we all know this. Until things change for me I'm going to be keeping budget in mind, even when things do change I'm probably still going to be a budget bang for buck guy. Hopefully this video helps so you guys don't make the same mistake I did.

Glad you was able to figure out how to make it run better. I would have done the same thing and for got all about the EGR valve. Great video 👍🏾

Appreciate it my dude. I’m gonna put it on the dyno In a couple weeks then put the 0411 with a high octane tune in it to see how much HP it can add.

The wires in the little black terminal is a ground used only on a 96-97 black box

Yeah it’s odd. It’s almost like it grounds its self. I found a diagram that showed the wire on pin loops around like a foot and a half then goes to the other pin in the same harness.

If you need more detail I can send you the link to one of the guys that gets a little more in detail. Also I’m going to take the truck to get Dyno’d as is, then swap in the other pcm you see at the end. It has a high octain tune. Then dyno it again to see what it does.

How does the LS computer mount in the black box mount

It gets flipped upside down, then it it’s in place. You can trim the edges with a rotors tool where the computer mounts into to get it to sit right side up. Only thing with that is you have to extend a few of the wires by a couple inches. I’ll be doing that eventually.

I’m in the process of doing this swap. I also opt to send the PCM to lextech for a startup tune. Only thing I don’t quite get is the trans range switch, did you have to mess with that?

I didn’t have to mess with that as far as I know. I don’t believe Lextech mentioned anything about that in my application. Glad you’re doing this swap too! Well worth the benefits.

Hey man, did the 4 colored connectors off your black box labeled C1,C2 and so forth? I can’t seem to find the markings to know which is C1,C2,C3&C4 (Blue,Red,White,Black)

@@RCSmith90 I'd like to get with him about deleting the black box from a 97 Sonoma. I have HP tuners so not having to send out a pcm to have it updated would be nice.
