Thanks for posting this. Most of the videos I've watched on groundwork or basic neck reining were done with young, relatively green, horses. It's nice to see these tools used with an older horse that needs a refresher course, which is what my horses need in the spring after a winter off.

I've been in love with westerns since I was a kid and have never in my life seen anyone have a stable with horses and cows and everything. I loved the little tip added about grooming in the beginning. I also used to trim their whiskers but with a new perspective, I won't anymore. Makes sense! Same with the ears. Sometimes I'd shave my gelding's for the hell of it without thinkin about its purpose. Thanks for the reminder, friend.

Mr Dwayne and Momma, Gracias for this kind of content, i can tell now i know what im looking for to master when i graduate from Veterinary Medicine. Im from Central America and is atypical to see a vet who's into horses i know a few. I know they're very delicate to treat them from medicine perspective. Its a long run goal to pay you a visit and maybe your student. I like this kind of content it makes me wonder how many things im able to learn from a lot of people.

Wow....this is so spiritual. Our relationship with Jesus. We get lazy and burdened when he is preparing us as we war. We have to remember our responsibility and purpose. We stop being sensitive to the spirit because we are in our flesh consumed with life and not true life, so he has to remind us who is in charge or we get the swat, chastised with the rod of man because we refuse to listen. I AM CONVICTED! WOW❤

Hopefully this also works for tuning up a lazy human for the spring. I've been a bit of a loafer this winter.
@Trassel24210 ай бұрын
I think it kind of makes sense to be lazy during winter. I think I’m part bear, honestly, the way winter makes me feel like just sleeping until the sunshine returns and there’s green on the trees again. He’s a beautiful horse, I love working horses and they do a great job. I didn’t know horses had “whiskers” like dogs and cats! Your horse grooming is sensible and kind to the animal, I figure that if nature wanted horses to have no hair in their ears, they’d not be able to grow any. I think that the same thing applies to people. You’ve got to tell people that they’re doing something well, that they’re making a difference, that they’re doing good and that you appreciate what they do. That way, they’ll follow your orders when given and be able to give you orders and feedback and so on in return.

Just a question, since many may have more than one horse. Would you recommend rotating the horse you're riding daily/weekly to prevent the laziness/brain getting turned off from the monotonous repetition or no reinforcement from less experienced riders that don't command the same attention or response as you might?

why do you bump with your legs the entire time he is walking?
@DryCreekWranglerSchool4 ай бұрын
In some circles, it’s called peddling. When a horse is very lazy, you keep providing energy with your legs to keep him going at the pace you want. This is my most dependable, gentle horse, and he mostly carries students. They don’t make him go and so he shuffles along as lazy as he can get away with.

I most always do a short longe before I get on , even if it's a couple times both ways, I see what mood the horse is in , if there is a tack issue or anything else. because you never know. It only takes an extra minute. I do that at home and when I am out with a group . Had my friend done that she wouldn't have busted her leg . She saddled her 15 year old dead broke gelding , and just got on , something wasn't right and he went down and crushed her leg against the trailer . She is a avid horseman ranch woman who uses her horses as well as trail rides too but got sloppy. Now I get teased for doing that light longe but I don't care ,I have no issues. I see others all the time just getting on a dancing fresh horse and even putting green people on them , many times those folks are on the ground . We all can't stay twenty one and dumb forever! I just don't think it's a timed event and I would rather all involved have a good experience.
