Outstanding! Not only is the video excellent in every way (duration, presentation, sound, lighting, closeups, pace + NO music) but your responses to questions in the comments are also educational. Wow! I've been crocheting for 5+ decades. Before covid19 pandemic, I took a workshop to learn Tunisian simple stitch. Your online video tutorial was better than the live workshop!!!! This is one of THE best crochet videos on YT - I've watch hundreds of them. I subbed...thx!!!

I have started a baby blanket in Tunisian simple stitch (only done a couple of inches) , if I change to the double will it make the work wider as well as longer.
@CrochetkimWebsite7 жыл бұрын
As long as you use the simple stitch vertical bar for your double stitch, it shouldn't affect the width, but it may bias a little bit so you may want to switch back and forth between the two stitches to see if that helps with it.

@CrochetkimWebsite6 жыл бұрын
This is a typical closing for all standard Tunisian crochet stitches: ch 1 to start, then *yarn over, pull through 2 lps, yarn over, pull through 2 lps, yarn over, pull through 2 lps, ..... all the way across.

Could you use this stitch to make a Entrelac afghan?
@CrochetkimWebsite8 жыл бұрын
+Patti Williams Since it's taller than a single crochet, you wouldn't be able to swap them out in a pattern. It would require experimentation in order to get the square.

I love this stitch but I'm still trying to figure out how to keep the left side from slanting as the the project gets bigger. I don't understand why the right side stays perfectly straight but the left side always ends up going crooked. I've tried doing just a simple stitch instead of a double stitch on the last bar for the left side and that helps some but doesn't fix the slant completely. What am I doing wrong on the left end?
@CrochetkimWebsite7 жыл бұрын
If you are maintaining your stitch count, it is just the natural bias of this particular stitch. For some people, there is a left bias and others, there is a right bias. This stitch is particularly "bias-y". You may be able to straighten it with simply setting the stitches by stretching from top to bottom (dry blocking) or with wet blocking. You can also try different insertions of the stitch; i.e. knit stitch instead of simple stitch, or working into the top horizontal bar.

So, a friend of mine gave me a couple of these hooks. it's very simple but I can't get my tension right at all! it's way too tight. any suggestions? thanks
@CrochetkimWebsite8 жыл бұрын
You may simply need a larger hook. For instance, I use a K or L hook with standard size 4 yarns. If you don't have a larger hook available, perhaps you could use a finer weight yarn with the hooks you have, in order to discover your perfect tension.
@mlr-438 жыл бұрын
CrochetKim I have worsted weight yarn and am using a K hook. I figured out that it's gets tighter bc of the slant at the beginning of the hook. of course, I don't know how to stop that from happening. thanks for responding!
@CrochetkimWebsite8 жыл бұрын
You may loosen up once you get more accustomed to it. If you're making the double stitch, it's actually more loose than others and working it in the front vertical bar is looser than, say, knit stitch.
@mlr-438 жыл бұрын
CrochetKim ok! I REALLY want to learn this so, I hope I get the hang of it soon! thanks!

Kim: Is it possible to use this stitch to work a blanket in entrelac? I'm doing one in Tunisian simple stitch but I was thinking...maybe an entire entrelac afghan could be made using this, or purl stitches, or knit stitches, etc.... Ever seen such a thing?
@CrochetkimWebsite8 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there is a way because the concept is proven with diagonal box stitch. If you are familiar with the concept of the popular corner-to-corner pattern from Red Heart yarns, you could use it to create something like it in Tunisian fairly easily.
@CrochetCrochetJoyJoy8 жыл бұрын
CrochetKim Hmmm. I may have to figure out a way to engineer that.

You might also try looking around for a size L hook at some point. That could help as well.

It's easy to lose the last stitch of a row just like when learning single crochet. Try with a small number of stitches and count as you go for every single row until you become accustomed to the look of the last stitch.

Kim what do you think I am doing wrong mine curls
@CrochetkimWebsite6 жыл бұрын
You may need to upsize or downsize your hook. It could be the yarn or a mistake in stitching. Perhaps try a different insertion. It could be lots of different things. This particular stitch shouldn't have much curling at all, but if you experience curling, it will probably relax very easily.
@geekbychoice99787 жыл бұрын
I love this stitch!!! but after a few rows, the whole thing is slanting to the right. Which is great for scarfs but not for garments at all. 😑
@CrochetkimWebsite7 жыл бұрын
It's definitely one of those stitches which has a natural bias,simple stitch insertion more so than knit stitch insertion. It will require blocking, especially with a garment.
