Mickey, you are the absolute best! Very smooth voice, excellent instructions, and just the right amount of talking. It drives me crazy when someone does not give enough information and it makes me insane when someone chatters constantly and gives NO instructions. You know what I mean? You find you're halfway through the video and you haven't learned the first step because the instructor is chattering just to hear himself talk. Not a problem with you, Mickey. Your balance is perfect, your instructions are clear and precise, and your voice is smooth and so easy on the ears. I look forward to more lessons. Thank you.

I completely agree with the relaxing and therapeutic aspect of this. I learned to crochet at around age 10 and started to learn knitting a couple of years ago (still not very good). I picked up Tunisian crochet a couple of days ago for the first time. I found that the sound of the hook against the yarn as it slides through is just as relaxing as the motion. The fact that this is an easy craft is just a bonus. I think anyone could do it.

You are a wonderful teacher. I love how you are breaking the mold of "men don't crochet in any venue" my husband and son make me washcloths all the time. You have none of the nervous word whispers so commonly found in nervous teachers. I am a teacher myself ( not of crochet). But I love your ability to explain as you go with repetition. I was worried amount taking up this new venue of crocheting but your teaching ability as really given me hope. It is easy to learn from someone who loves what they are doing.. I learned this basic stitch so I could make an fabric that allows me to use several books of filet crochet patterns from the early 1900's and counted cross stitch to create lovely lap robes and afghans. Hi - thanks for the vid - self teaching and trying to find all the other stitches one can do - Tunisian is fun -- would be great if when showing new stitches you can name them and supply the abbreviation e.g. Tsc tbl. Also, I learned that the Purl stitch, working either front or back loop, one brings the working yarn to the front. What I believe you called Purl is the basic back row from right to left

Mikey you are a born teacher. I always have trouble picking up the little bump on the back of the chain. I have tried and tried when I was doing the Little Sweetie Dress. Is there a trick to it? It took me forever and didn't look nice. I can really see the advantage here though. No rolling of the fabric.
@ramar815 жыл бұрын
Mikey, when doing the pearl stitch to keep it from rolling, do you have to continue pulling from the back stitches all through out the process or can you go back to stitching from the front.

Mikey: I have noticed that for years and years I have not been wrapping my yarn OVER the hook, but have been bringing in from the front to the back. Does that really matter? I noticed you did the same thing in one stitch but took it out and re-did it. Please explain. Thanks Carole
@FaithRichFidler9 жыл бұрын
I purl from the front in Tunisian. Perhaps it gets the same result, but it's interesting that you go into the back.
@Peachess_WNY9 жыл бұрын
+Faith Rich Fidler you aren't doing a (TPS)Tunisian Purl stitch then...you are doing the (TRS) Tunisian Reverse Stitch. The TPS is done thru the back vertical bar. While the TRS is done thru the front vertical bar. IE: drop working yarn to front, put hook thru the front vertical bar, working yarn goes to behind the hook YO and pull thru.
@kathyburgess581911 жыл бұрын
You suggest using a tunisian hook about 3 mm larger than recommended on the yarn label. Where did you get the one you use? I live in SW Ontario I and have checked in many stores. The largest I could find was 6.5 mm, & I need 8.0 mm.

1. are you supposed to do that "purl" stitch for just the first row or for every row? 2. is the further end (the end that you dont start on) supposed to look rounded? i wasnt sure if this was because i was grabbing the wrong 2 yarns at the end for the chain.

I really like your tutorials Mike. You don't mention the hook size to use. It seems rather small to me; not the recommended + 3 mm, as you mention in the introduction. (Sometimes a hook 3mm bigger than the recommended for the yarn is a bit too much, in my experience)

Kelly Hunter Do you mean how do you figure out how many stitches to cast on to get The width you need/want? Take the yarn and the hook you want to use and make a swatch, 10 by 10 or 20 by 20 to get a good sample and measure how many inches this is, then multiply by the number of inches you need. Since this using the yarn, hook and tension you will be using it is the most accurate way to figure out how many stitches you need to cast on. Hope that helps.
@FableStrangeAbbadear1210 жыл бұрын
Joyleaf55: no we actually mean this hook dose not support 100 or 200 stitches. It's gets all tangled and scrunched up so what are we missing? @ Kelly hunter: no I haven't I'm sorry.
@JoyLeaf5510 жыл бұрын
I have a size K hook with a 22 inch cord from Susan Bates that I bought years ago. It has held over 300 stitches with no problem. I kept my tension loose and about 20/25 stitches on the hook at a time, sliding more on or off as soon as it started to pull at my tension. My problem was holding it all in my lap as it got long.

Mikey, I just use the middle bumps on the back of each chain as I was taught by my great Aunt. Does it matter which way you start it off?

I do the same; I like the edge looking finished without having to come back with a single crochet to finish the edge. You can totally use the back bump.

It is a crochet hook it has the hook on the end. He is misspeaking and correcting himself. Knitting needles come to a point and do not have the hook on the end. I think this pattern is similar to knitting because there is a stopper on the end of the hook and you make panels that you sew together. In traditional crochet you turn your work to go back and forth and you can make the blanket as large as you want. I hope this helps.
