First off yes I am a guy. Thank you so much for reteaching me how to crochet. My Ma taught me when I was young but it never took. I wanted to find out how to repair a wool knit sweater I found at a thrift store so I googled it. watch some videos and got it done. I came across some of yours and decided to try my hand again at the task. I now know how to make a beanie and a scarf I hope to start on a blanket at the beginning of the year. thanks for giving my idol hands another rewarding task to keep them out of trouble. Sincerely J. I am an almost 67 year old man and I learned from my grandma when I was 5. I have had a lifetime love of it. I have made blankets, sweaters, hats, etc. I love to crochet while I am sitting in my recliner to also keep my hands busy. I make about 100 hats a year which I sell and donate to clinics that distribute to patients that have lost their hair to chemo, burns and surgery. It really satisfies me. Right now I am on the journey of learning new stitches and motifs. Challenging and satisfying when I master them. I have all of my grandma's remaining doilies and such done in fine crochet thread ( the tiny stuff I originally learned how to do). I also have her crochet hook and 1911 treadle sewing machine (which still works).Some of them are from the late 1800's and early 1900's which were worn and damaged and since I could read the stitches and motifs I was able to fix them. She was born in 1887 and died in 1987 and I think of her often when I crochet. It's like we are still sitting on the couch while we visited and crocheted.

Superb I am 53 have been doing it only for the last month ,made one hat ,doing a sweater now ,might change it into a dress.Winter is over in Saudi Arabia but by next winter I will finish the dress in shaa ALLAH meaning if god will .My question to you mister if you don’t mind what was the effect on your sight ,personally ,I have few seconds of blurry long distance sight if I work more than 30to 40 minutes.I decided to go back to treadmill walking at least one hour a day most probably this will improve the elasticity of my lenses,, I hope this works .And thanks for your inspiring post.

I love your tutorials and the way you explain everything so well. That's why I want to ask you for a favor. I've been learning Tunisian crochet since the beginning of this year and I would like to find a good sweater pattern to use with it. I really want to make a nice pullover (jumper) style sweater. Great video! You show 2 types of Tunisian crochet hooks. One other is the double ended hook often used for Cro-Hooking. The dual ends allows you to work virtually any length and you can work with 2 colors at one time. :)

Thank you for this great tutorial. I am a sort of advanced beginner in regular crochet and brand new to tunisian. I've been watching a lot of tutorials, and all the other tutorials show that, with that last vertical bar of the cast-on that you're working into before the return pass, one should rotate the end a little so that they see two yarns and everyone else seems to place the hook under both yarns to pull up the last loop, but you only worked into the front vertical bar as usual at the end. Is that not important?

To make a really big piece, buy a knook - the size of your piece is only limited by the length of cord you decide to use. Aliexpress has a set of 3 for very little cost.

Could you tell us where to buy the shorter hook with cable? Have been checking Amazon and all I see are the ones with a 4 foot cable for rug-making. The must be something shorter. I started a jacket, but my hook is not long enough, and so far, as mentioned, haven't found a cables hook, so had to go back to regular crochet. Thanks!

It doesn't stretch . However you can use a dbl. hook and do simple stitch . That will give you what you're looking for .

I am primarily a knitter. I use the long tail cast on instead of chaining. Much easier with a better looking edge but like knitting better to cast on to two needles, I mean hook and needle, to avoid foundation “chain” from being too tight.

You insert your hook behind the vertical bar and work a slip stitch. Do this all the way across the row.

I am using a Tunisian straight crochet hook. (we never call them needles as that is for knitting), to cast off just cut your yarn and pull up.

I work the forward pass as usual, except pull through both loops on the hook. This will leave you with only one loop at the left end of the row. Cut your yarn, pull through, and weave in the end. Voila!

Btw...if you don't want those "bloops" to show when you do a colour change, then just knit the entire row then go back to your knits and purls as usual. It won't harm the stretch or pattern of your work. :)
