Most enjoyable. Thank you Alice, very well presented. Can you imagine being a soldier in those days. Not a professional soldier, but a conscript. It would have been quite exciting, interspeered with bloody bouts of adrenalin fueled fighting and hand to hand combat. I think people in those days had less fluff in their lives, that reality was right there with them all the time. We are more insulated today, did can be purchase, not caught or grown, water had to be fetched and carried, not a turn of a tap, and horses had to be caught and saddled. I imagine they lived with a lot less lies and half truths. Survival was directly and immediately tied to what you did yesterday and today.

oooh, I've been down some of those tunnels, really spooky feeling, but great to be able to see out into one of the moats, guess I need to go back now to go to the end of it

Very spooky I totally agree, last time we were able to explore those tunnels, I'm sure I saw a ghost , a misty figure of a soldier near the wooden steps , my partner saw nothing , it was strange almost an apparition !
