Those slots in the wall at 19:15 are not actually from the cable, they're from when the tunnel was being blasted through the rock, they drilled holes and filled them with gunpowder. That's our engine at 7:13 by the way.
@Terrier55Stepney4 жыл бұрын
It's a lovely little engine! A lot of people seemed to enjoy it at Wharf. Ah right! Was the gunpowder not drilled into the rock though, surely that than along it as the remaining marks show?
@QuarrySteam4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I am currently doing some work on it to repair a steam leak! The slots are half of the hole that was left after the blasting was done i.e. the explosion only blew out the rock on one side of the hole. Hope that makes some sense.
@Terrier55Stepney4 жыл бұрын
@@QuarrySteam Now I'm with you. For some reason I was picturing them drilling into the rock into the tunnel sides and not through it! xD Makes perfect sense now. Best of luck with the steam leak. Hope to see and film it again when I'm next down.

I know what railway it is underneath the foliage. Its the Tanat Valley Light Railway. Ran from Oswestry to Llanyblodwell 15 miles South East. Its last use was for slate traffic which ran to Blodwell Junction about a mile and a half from the crossing you came across at Porthywaen. This junction was used for the Nantmawr branch to the quarry. Now there is the heritage railway up at Nantmawr, as well as the Cambrian Heritage Railway based at Oswestry and Llynclys.

I hope you enjoyed the Ffestiniog railway, it looks like you were in coach 150 being pulled by Merdin Emrys, I was working as a buffet steward their in the summer, at the time one of the fairlies, David Lloyd George had a crack in its boiler and so there were a lot of doubleheaders running as there is not a third double fairlie at the moment as a new one is being built and another has been taken out of service. Also, fun fact the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway is located in what was known as Minfordd siding and Russel is an original locomotive from the line, not the NG16 Garrets which are all from South Africa.

That railway at the start was used for taking nuclear waste away from the nuclear plant that used to be over the road. UK law states that all Nuclear waste must be trasported by Rail or Sea, the waste can be transported by road but not very far so that's why the railway line was there, it is still owned by Network Rail (Notwork Fail as some people call them).

Naturally I highly recommend the Talyllyn and Bluebell. Aside that, the typical big ones people want to see are the National Railway Museum, the Ffestiniog/Welsh Highland/Welsh Highland Heritage/Snowdon etc all within 2 hours drive of each other. Severn Valley and North Yorkshire Moors are also brilliant for typical steam experience. Great Central if you want a mainline experience, and Kent + East Sussex, South Devon or Isle of Wight for a typical rural branchline.
