When the whole Tupac Biggie East vs West thing was happening I was a lil bit older and I watched my nephew and his friends emulate these guys... I never thought they would leave any kind of legacy in music or anything else... And I didnt start looking into the whole story untill many yrs after they both passed and the gangsta rap thing ran its coarse... I gotta admit I was wrong... They both were extremely talented in what they did and Tupac is probably one of the most polarizing figures not just in rap but in general... This song has such a great msge and such a rapid fire delivery.. That I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesnt like it..

Tupac has a wide appeal. I didn't grow up black or in poverty (although I would eventually become homeless and live on the streets for years, even in East St. Louis, after discharging from the Marines). Still, he speaks to me and countless other races on songs like this because the subject matter is universal. Did his music make a change for the better? Yes and No. Changes changed nothing (yet) if you look at the big picture here in the US. Not because it wasn't a great work but because the issues it addressed require direct action at all levels of society. There is nor ever was a war on drugs. It was a name the policies and actions didn't live up to. There was a police response to drugs and drug trafficking, it wasn't a war though. Modern war requires the complete mobilization of an entire nation--its economy, its people, its government, everything, working in tandem to overcome a common enemy. There WILL be a war on poverty. There WILL be a war on broken systems (like the one we all have to deal with at the moment). It's easy to convince people poverty must be eliminated, but has so far been impossible to convince the majority required to wage a proper war against it. Not the phony kind of war that the war on drugs claimed to be. But a real war like the one that put our entire nation into the same shoes, a war like we fought in Europe and the Pacific in the 1940's.

RIP GOAT.
