In Episode 167 of Mike Finnegan's Garage, we replace the antique rear axle and shocks in my 1968 Dodge Charger stock car and then do rev-limiter burnous! If you haven't seen this car before, it's got a unique history. This is a legit barn find, a car built in 1969 to go ARCA stock car racing, but it never turned a lap; it sat for 50 years in a barn before landing on eBay. I bought the dilapidated Charger and then Tony Angelo and I got it running and road tripped it from Georgia to Indiana to visit the original builder.
He wasn't too happy to see the car again, which killed the vibe of the project for me to the point where I was ready to sell it in 2020. Then I got the the ridiculous idea to rip out the weak 383ci big block Mopar from under the hood. My plan was to finally experience a proper Toyota 2JZ inline 6 cylinder engine by swapping it into The Death Metal Charger. The hate from the Mopar crowd was excellent but despite all of that, I fell in love with the car again. It was lighter, faster and almost twice as powerful as before and it made 2J noises, which is rad!
The old Timken rear axle wasn't happy about all the burnouts I'd been doing and the old Monroe shocks were trashed so this video is all about curing those problems. Newbern and I installed a 9-inch axle from Quick Performance, which you can get more info about by clicking here:
www.quickperfo...
The axle features disc brakes and an extra pair of four piston calipers from Wilwood. We also installed a Wilwood master cylinder for our drift brake handle, which you can find here:
www.wilwood.co...
Here's the link to the Sikky hand brake we paired with the Wilwood master cylinder:
www.sikky.com/...
and here is the place to get more information about QA1 Stocker series shocks:
www.qa1.net/mo...
Lastly, if you'd like to support the channel, please buy some of our merchandise. We've got new shits, hats and stickers here:

Thanks for watching!

you know 2jz is not a bad option with lots of bolt-on parts and way easier than a big block to keep in the revs or an over the top small-block, and the C body suspension parts or truck body stuff will take that abuse, on a dirt track, I am big Mopar guy but love what your doing man car guy first, and it is funny they made so many chargers we been smashing them up for how many yrs now. very few worth going back to full resto and most of the cars worth it are setting in nice homes,

heck yeah, i love this swap! i don't know if you know who, "Cooper Bogetti" is. ?? Before Cooper branched out on his own, He was always filming with Garrett Mitchell aka Cleetus Mcfarland, and his group of people, Anyway, he did a 2JZ swap into a 4th gen Camaro. and of course, he was catching hell from , "the PURISTS" while he was building it. . but he caught his redemption when the tcar easily ran 10s, then shortly after started to run 8s pretty quick . and i believe he has already cracked into the 7s now !!!! Personally, I don't know about the Camaro. (just my personal preference. .lol) i know a lot of people love them. And i know Cooper loves his (and that is all that really matters. when YOU, build YOUR car, that YOU like it!!!! ) *************----------------------sorry for the rant below, i guess the nostalgia got to me-.. lmao-------------------************ i just love the JZ family of engines. and i know a couple of my favorites would probably get laughed at by people who love and live the Camaro. . lol starting out with the Toyota Chaser and the Toyota Verossa, and might as well throw the Toyota Aristo in there. NOW; how to describe these cars. well, they are all 4 door cars. . lol. . the first two have 1JZ, and the Aristo WAY back in 1991 came with the 2JZ ( I think a full year or two before the Supra even got one) I don't know what it is. i just love these big, rear wheel drive JDM cars. to me they offer everything. the JZ family of engines, the 4 doors, cause my friends and i are all big guys and do like some comfort. and we like to ride together on trips and don't like climbing over top of each other. lol i may be a bit biased, because my first, "cool car" . (well in my eyes) was a Toyota mark 2. and i happened to just stumble upon it. I wasn't so much into JDM stuff back then. i was sort of looking for something like a Volkswagen Scirocco (was the top of my list) I dont know why.. i wanted to be different, and my friends were into the VW GOLF , so i wanted something similiar but different. it wasnt just that, i wanted some type of European import. like an old bmw even And that was when i discovered a pretty local junk yard that ONLY took in Import cars for junk, sale, trade, etc.... and this guy's yard was there over the last 40 years or so. so back them (around 1998 ) they literally had one of everything. . lol. . mostly for parts though. but he did have some decent cars for sale I found this , Beautiful: MARK II, (or maybe a mark II , Cressida

@@frigglebiscuit7484 Lol - oh, the excuses. Of course your 50+ year old A-Body could weigh less than a full weight 25 year old Supra. There is only a couple decades and change of safety/crash structure, chassis rigidity, and improvement in geometry there. Not a very enlightening argument considering a typical stock '70 Dart with a small block is only a couple hundred pounds lighter........ Fin swapped a 3.73 into the charger - I don't consider that "gearing the living hell out of it." I lost count of how many 3.73 and 4.10s I have swapped into big block muscle cars over the years. You can play "what ifs" and make excuses all you want - but it doesn't change the fact that full weight Supras are in the 6.90s in the quarter these days and there are hordes of them in the 8/9/10s with fairly simple setups - and the 2JZ is a fantastic engine. I don't care about where an engine comes from - I only care about what it can do. And given what the 2JZ can do - it is a pretty amazing engine.
