@@BoostBrothersGarage Found an hx35 turbo im considering buying but need a little info, To run 400whp, which is about 470hp crank at 7000rpm, it takes about 53pounds/minute flow from the turbo if my calculations are correct which is well in the hx35 range as the model im looking at maxes at 60pounds/minute flow. If i upgrade the springs on the 07k the redline goes up to 8500 rpm. Does this mean that the max output would becomes 485whp? Is max reliable engine torque rpm sensitive? If not then the turbo flow would need to be 66pounds/minute which is too high for the hx35 but works with an hx40 pro. Which turbo should i choose based on 8500rpm if that is a reliable redline with springs and maybe rods and a cam if needed. Seems like the hx40 pro would have just enough flow unless my calculations are wildly off lol. What do you think? Thanks
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Your math isn’t incorrect, but it’s not as black and white as you state. First off, horsepower is a fake number, it’s torque x rpm / 5252. So, the more torque you have at the higher rpm the more horsepower you will have. Based on my calcs the HX35 will have no problem making 400 wheel, especially if you are doing a cam. There are guys out there that have made 600 plus with an HX35. They love high boost and will have great response on this engine. However, if you are concerned and have the budget you could run the Garrett G25-660 like Alan. It was spec’d by Garrett engineers for the 07K and is capable of 660 crank HP with great response. The HX35 was my budget alternative that I believe will perform pretty similarly although well a touch slower response
@paulhoffman14814 жыл бұрын
@@BoostBrothersGarage I think we had a missunderstanding. 400whp is roughly equal to 460 crank hp which can translate to 345 foot pounds of torque at 7000rpm. Could the engine make 345 foot pounds of torque all the way to 8500 rpm stock with the exception of the springs and maybe a cam or would the engine implode or something lol
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Haha, I gotcha. We honestly don’t know yet. Everything I’ve read just says 400 wheel is safe. I know there are people out there spinning to 8500 ok stock internals as well. We plan on doing a lot of experimenting to find the true limits, but we just don’t know yet. I think the HX35 is the right turbo unless you plan on going for serious power, like 500+ on a built short block

I'm really looking forward to seeing this completed. I have a 2015 981 Cayman S. I can only imagine how beastly it would be with this type of engine. But, it is still under warranty and cost me too much money to chance a mod like this. FWIW, I do have Soul Performance Headers paired with the PSE.

Something that I didn't hear you mention but seems important regarding the circlips. When you are ready to install the circlip with the tool, are you rotating it until the tang on the clip drops into the slot before you hammer it into place? I assume you were doing that but it wasn't clear or I missed it on the last two videos. I know you said you are aligning the clip, I assume you also mean rotationally aligning the tang into the slot? Does my question make sense?
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
For this bank it is suggested that you cut the tangs off the circlip. There are just too many ways to screw it up otherwise.

Hi there! Congrats!!! - that's great news!!!! I've been inspired!!! I am technologist but wanted to learn how to rebuild a motor (in these Coronaville times we are in) - not any motor - a horizontal (truth be told I have a 07 Cayman S 36K, it so my intentions to watch your session and this H4 rebuild have my interest) - My friend, a real mechanic unlike me, did a Subaru H4 naturally-aspirated engine crate swap for one of his customers, he gave me the failed motor (I will send pics if you want - not a KZbinr!) I have removed 3 of the 4 pistons(2,3, and 4) but piston 1 - I need to remove the wrist pin first as I can not gain access to the piston rod bolts I can buy mostly what I need but I can not get access to the backside of the wrist pin to put the nut on to pull it through - what can I do, what can I buy? I am stuck please advise!!!
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
On the Cayman engine, which I believe is pretty similar, I had to split the case halves and remove the bank two half. From there I was able to remove the crank carrier and disassemble from there. Watch this video and see if it helps? kzbin.info/www/bejne/imHYdIZnj6dpjJo

@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Going to lower compression ratio allows you to run more boost ok pump gas. 15 lbs of boost at 9:1 CR makes more power than 10 lbs of boost at 10:1 CR
