So many hobby channels become about spending ever increasing sums of money. That's fun, but also unrelateabl. I love that at its heart, C&C is still about what some buddy's can get done in the backyard.

Hey John I've been a Fabricator for around 9 years TIG welding for longer than that it's great to see you taking on the challenge that is TIG! My first bit of advice would be COMFORT when welding anything anywhere if you aren't comfortable your welds won't be as good. Second get a foot pedal for your welder it will help you, it takes practice but is way worth it in the end I'm not knocking the hand trigger it definitely has its uses and benefits but for learning it helps to have one less thing your hand has to do. Great job on everything you do and I watch every video keep it up!

Been a subscriber since the rat rod wagon! John, in my opinion the most important thing with tig welding is comfort, get setup on a table. Looks like you’re holding your torch with your left hand, so you’re going to want to move left to right, feeding the filler from the direction you are travelling. It’s much more difficult to weld toward yourself. Another good tip for starting out is don’t dab the filler, just run over it. Cheers from Canada

An actual clutch plate between the engine and the torque drive (I refuse to mis-label it) will allow you to wind it higher without the worry of 'creeping' the lights while giving you the necessary instantaneous engagement you need to lower your ET throughout the length of the track.

Fun tickling the keys on the laptop for this baby. I believe we're dipping in fuel pressure. The pump John told me was rated at 75 psi. With our boost referenced fuel pressure regulator + 25psi of boost with a base pressure of 52psi, believe we're asking for more pressure than the pump can deliver. The launch though! We got that baby chooching. 4,000 rpm stall next!

ALWAYS take extra spark plugs and a low pressure tire pressure gauge with you. And make sure to get TWO EGT probes so you can add those in to the sensors and see which cylinder may be going up and down in temps. Plus, top off EVERY time with fuel, and make absolutely certain to use a METHANOL friendly fuel pump. That one you had on it looked like it was just a ebay 255 pump. Last, make sure to use methanol friendly fuel line and fuel filters both pre and post pump.

Point the GoPro at the fuel psi gauge during a pass to see if the pressure is dropping. Try colder spark plugs and / or a smaller gap on the plugs to help with the down track miss. You can steer the car with the wheelie bars off the line by lowering one side more than the other, if you are going right off the line lower the left side wheel.

I do overhead doors for a living and your spreader bar (the unit you've got between the axle and jack shaft) would be more effective on the exterior of your chain. The bearings hold it near the kart, the spreader holds your shaft ends from coming together. For reference a commercial overhead door motor with a 1/2hp motor can produce upwards of 750lb torque and use #50 chain. This would help from loosening your chain.

Actually, more wrap around the sprockets ensures a better ride of the chain around them, and reduces the chances of them jumping. MY only issue is not having a chain guard. I would think that even if you don't go back with the in-tube chain guide, at least put a shield around it all so if it comes loose it doesn't jump up and grab you on its way past.

Titanium isn't too bad to machine really, it's a little bit harder on the tooing, (cutting inserts) and a little bit harder for the machine to remove the metal, overall it's not as bad as everyone is led to believe. In tool and die work we use a form of "Magnetic Stainless Steel" which simply has a little more iron mixed in so that the metal will stick to a magnetic chuck, or magnetic table to make it easier to surface grind. It's also a bit more corrosion resistant than standard mild steel.

Biggest help I found with TIG welding was buying a gas lense kit with the see-through cup, can get them cheap as chips off ebay. Makes it a bit easier to see what you're doing. And rule of thumb for electrode stickout from the end of the cup, max stickout is the same length as the diameter of the cup opening, so if you have a 1/2" cup, you can run up to 1/2" of stickout.

Not a welder, but watched a fair amount. I don't know anything about HOW to weld, but my industrial welder guy (who welds high pressure steam and ammonia piping) was using a TIG on some 1/2" steel plate. When he was done laying it down, he had a spray bottle with water in it that he would spray it down with afterward. Made it quicker to be able to handle it. I wish I could weld like you guys!

Great stuff guys, thanks for another cool video! I read a comment that suggested new spark plugs that are colder and maybe close the gap a little bit. It wouldn't hurt to try those. I read another comment that suggested putting a Gopro camera facing the fuel pressure gauge while you do a complete run so you can see if the fuel pressure is fluctuating at all at wide open throttle under a load. I definitely agree with that one! I would also suggest double checking the whole ignition system. And the last suggestion I have, I think it needs a little more gear. I would love to see this 670 dragster launch really hard and run clean all the way down the drag strip and run in the sixes and closer to 100 MPH! And I think it would do that if it ran clean the whole way and had just a tiny bit more gear. This is my favorite project you guys have built! I always look forward to when new videos about it come out. You guys have a bunch of cool projects and C & C is definitely one of my favorite channels! Keep up the great work! Hi John, I used to deal with axles moving on an application at work because the set screws on the bearings would loosen/vibrate. So I removed the set screws, once I got the axle where I wanted it,and put a drill down in there, and made a divot just using the tip of the drill bit, then replaced the screws and never had another problem with them. A good set of socket Allen's helps to keep them from stripping while getting them good and tight. Hope this helps.

They really need to get a better welding hood, those chicago electric ones have crap sensors and will flash your eyes if you weld anywhere but directly in front of you, most of the decent modern ones now have multiple sensors so even if you're welding in a less than ideal position it won't flash you, i just picked up a new lincoln hood to replace my old speedglass one and its crazy how much better you can see through these newer lenses.

Just a thought, you may want to put a grease fitting in your axle collar to prevent unnecessary wear

Always make yourself into a tripod when you’re welding…3 points of stability both feet being 1 or butt maybe your hip and then both arms. Never want your arms just floating around especially the one you want to have all the control with. Also don’t forgot to work on uniform welds with the same width bead all the way around.

Big Daddy Dan Garlitz had a rig that allowed him to lift the rear end just off the track where he could Rev up the engine for pre start. Where he dropped his rail down on the track when the tree hit the the green. For an extra fast launch thru the 1/4 mile. Worth considering to break the 100mph. Just drop the lever & rail for an extra fast launch off the line.

You ALWAYS need the tensioner on the non-driven side of a sprocket because otherwise it can yank loose right away. The tensioner ALWAYS needs to be on the coasting side of the sprockets.

Try shortening the chain and put it on like a Ls liming Chain, put it on with front sprocket off then pull and slide front sprocket on, also pro tree or not stay at the tree till you’re ready, your time dosnt start till you break the beam your reaction time dosnt effect the time

For the shaft collars get square head set screws, easier to tighten and they have a hole in the head for safety wire.

Stainless steel is super heavy though, because its more chromium and nickel, which are heavier than iron. So with it being as light as it is, there's no question its at least partly titanium.

Well done! Still looking forward to seeing some mods on the military go kart. Ike mentioned that there may be some mods that could be done to that engine and very much looking forward to see where that path takes you.

Re: putting the chain tensioner inside the chain loop instead of outside. That's a bad idea, as the tighter you make it, the less chain contact you'll have on the front sprocket, so it might have a tendency to throw the chain and it'll put more load on the sprocket teeth

Hey @CarsandCameras IDK when this was recorded, but if you still need to get a WBO2 for logging, LMK I have one in the garage that I no longer need/use. I'd be happy to send it, if you still need. It's an Innovate LC-2, I believe.

Can’t see it in your videos but add a wideband sensor makes tuning a lot easier and aim for 12.2 afr or 11.8 for high boost for most torque it does make a decent difference on the larger engines I tune

John, are you welding backwards? The filler rod should go forward of the torch. (rod over gap, torch over weld) Couldn't tell from the vid, just looked like you were setting up that way.

I can both see and hear that your ignition is cutting out. Not sure if that's a boost or rev limiter, but something is making it pop and sputter at half track. Maybe it is a voltage drop, that makes sense too.

This is the best drag race cart on you tube.. that thing runs well. Wonder if you have considered some kind of motorcycle transmission like a baker or bd transmission unit. These things could make that that cart hit that light and the 60' hard. They'd be spendy but there aren't a bunch of stand alone transmission options for bikes let alone carts.. just a thought
